Cue care?

Now that winter has arrived what is your experience with cues left in car trunks in the cold. I have heard how bad the summer heat is on them but how about winter cold. Cue builders are particularly invited to chime in!

My take on it is simple, I never leave my cue in any kind of environment in which I would not be comfortable. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable locked in a baking hot or freezing cold car trunk so I wouldn't keep my cue in there either.

Equally as bad as the heat. Glue bonds can break from the shrinking as well as ivory and other parts. If you do freeze your cue its a good idea to bring it in to the inside and let it warm up to room temperature before hitting any balls with it...may well explode breaking or hitting a ball while frozen.

Your cues comfortable in the same temps you are.....my 2 cents

Good suggestions above. Don't leave cue in car period for extended periods of time. I understand if you are playing after work and no place to bring cue.

I never, ever, leave my cue in the car if I'm not in it, for more than a couple of hours and not even that if I can manage it. I've left it in the car at tournaments I wasn't playing in a few times, other than that, never. I've seen what cold could do to a couple of Szamboti shafts, too.

maybe tn winters are not that cold, but I placed my cue in a case in the floor board of the back seat behind the the driver's side of my car for over 30 yrs with no adverse effects (hot or cold). I owned 3 cues over that time frame also. When the cue needed work, i took it to a mechanic or fixed it myself in my cooled and heated apt. I also broke with these cues. All were meucci sneaky petes and it was remarkable that I used each for about 10 yrs. Go figure?!

I had a $1100 Joss stolen out of the trunk of my car years ago...since then, I NEVER put a cue in the trunk, even if I'm going straight to the pool room. Too easy to forget and leave it there for "a couple of minutes" that turn into all night. I carry my cue in the car right next to me, coming and going. Everybody else above is spot on, keep your cue in conditions you're comfortable in and you'll have no problems. If you have ivory ferrules, make sure you give yourself time to let the cue acclimate to room temperature before you hit with it...I've seen a lot of ferrules crack like that.

I'll never understand why someone would leave their cue in the car at any time of the year...that's just being lazy IMHO...or drunk :embarrassed2:...

I might leave my wife in the car, but my cues are going with me.... in all kinds of weather & every situation...

Yep! That was another lesson learned...don't bring your cue if you think there's a chance you'll rather sit around drinking with your buddies instead of getting a table. It's amazing how many guys I've seen get drunk and forget they brought their cue in, and leave having left it leaning up against the bar.

I won't bring my cue in to a client's office when I am on the road working because I don't really want them all to know I am a pool player.... The ones I have told always do a double take like they are reassessing me so I now only tell the ones I have had long term dealings with....

The way I look at it is survival of the fittest.... If a cue can't take some changes in temperature without showing defects it can spend the rest of it's life at home on the shelf for the kids or company to use...... Now of course I am talking about a player... I would never stick a high end custom or collectible cue in the trunk for any length of time......

I leave my CueTec in the car. I bought it for that reason (other than I enjoy playing with it). My good cue(s) stay indoors.

"coarse if she doesn't come back she knows I'll bust my a$$ to find it...er...I mean her.

That circumstance makes plenty of sense, and one I would follow as well...important meetings, appointments etc... That's something I do all the time. Not to mention stopping at restaraunts before or after shooting...
But at the end of the night, reaching in the backseat/and or trunk is a must for me. Just the peice of mind helps me sleep better :).
and yes, I've left it in the car overnight before...by mistake  LOL...

not a good idea

not a good idea, especially with cues recently arriving from a drastically different climate. i try to be extra cautious with those. out of all the cues i've owned though i can only recall two where i had the finish busting around the rings, or cracking. mind you it get's darn cold up here.

While I was a young kid, I remember my dad left my mom at the gas station one time...still to this day he swears it wasn't purposely done!

There's "true love" for ya! :love2:

I would have my wife ride in the trunk before I would have my cue ride there. :)

I've seen the cues you like...your wife's gotta be better looking than those cues!!! C'mon...be a sport...at least let her ride on the roof rack!
