i've heard several players say they use alcohol(rubbing) to clean their cues is this safe to use? if not what do you use to clean it nicely.

On a really dirty cue I use Magic Eraser and then 600 sandpaper then
800 , 1000 ,1500, 2000 , 2500 THEN Butchers WAX Really smooth !!!!

1. A cuemaker told me never to use water in any form and to only use denatured alcohol (which does not contain water).

2. A friend has a predator Z1 shaft and said that the directions said to use rubbing alcohol (which contains water -- some more than others). But, I stick with the denatured alcohol when I first clean a shaft that's very dirty.

3. In addition to denatured alcohol, I also have and use either Shark Oil or Sil Kleen Instant Shaft and Ferrule Cleaner. I use only one at a time and each seem to work well. Kinda depends on how I feel that day as to what I use since I have both.

4. After cleaning I burnish well with a piece of leather or a Q-Wiz.

Q wiz works fine for me. Also be careful with your words when mentioning products, instructors, pros, aiming sytems or methods. Just trying to save you from getting a headache.

Post all you want man, that is why this forum is here! I use a dry Mr. Clean majic eraser, then wipe the shaft thouroughly with a dry cloth to remove the dust and fibers. Then I burnish it with leather, and start shooting. Welcome to AZ.

Really? Dry? I've never tried the Magic Eraser dry, usually dampen it a little bit. Guess I'll have to try that today. Thanks!

ive used it wet also, but dry works good enough for me, also, using it dry, i can play with it right away. try it out, you might find it useful.

I have, and you are right, but I keep a ME in my case, but it would be hard to tote around a bottle of denatured alcohol as well:D. I guess there is no real wrong way of doing it, kinda like sex! lol!

I got this information from the OB Cues web site:

"Here is how we do it:

We start by removing the surface dirt and hand oils. This is most easily done with a mild abrasive like the dark side of the OB Cues Q Wiz shaft conditioner. Remember, it only takes a couple of passes! You don’t want to sand away the wood!
Next we clean the cue shaft using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, available at your local grocery store, soaked lightly with denatured alcohol. Denatured alcohol is available at the hardware store. We use it instead of rubbing alcohol because it has less water in it. Rub the eraser up and down the shaft until it is clean.

The magic eraser will clean the shaft, but it will also raise the grain slightly. You will need to lightly sand the shaft with a very fine abrasive like the light side of the OB Cues Q Wiz. Use this to burnish the shaft back smooth. You should then seal the cue shaft using a quality cue sealer or wax."
