Cue Dimensions ?

I don't know about "most", but.....
I shoot for .850" at the joint and 1.25" at the butt. However, I don't have sanding mandrels, so they vary a little.
My shaft taper is a 12" modified pro taper. The diameter increases .030" over the first 12", with a gradually more agressive taper from there to the joint.

I am .850 to about 12.75ish. I like a more traditional cue spec wise. If I go slim .840 to 1.250 ish. My shafts are a little thicker 13.1-13.2 but with a long taper. Creates a nice stiff solid feel with nice playability. Tip diameter isn't as important as 12" down. I have no problem saying I borrowed my base taper from a skip Weston I had. I modified it a bit over the past few years. I don't offer multiple tapers

chris hightower told me when i first started that .85 - 1.25 was about the industry standard, so thats where i start. i have finished cues that vary from .83 to .87 and have had no problems with those sizes.
my shafts have a constant taper when they are cut at the last pass, then after its attached to the butt i sand it until i like the way it plays. i guess you could call it a tuned-up constant taper?

.850-1.250 two angles. Sometimes 3 angles. Me, no like single taper butts.
1MM to 1.25MM taper in 16 inches.

Thinkng about this pre finish or post finish should he stated. I like my spec finished sizes. However obviously different cues are built differently. A SS jointed cue that doesn't get a finish over the end finished sizes are .845 to 850. However ivory joint or something that gets a finish I like my sizes to he around .830 to .835 same thing with buttcap. Delrin will be 1.265 to 1.275 but with a finish I'll be in the 1.240 to 1.250 range.

I mean this in a nice way but I don't let the customers tell me how to make my cues. They can tell me what they want it to look like. But I am the cuemaker not them. Notsaying that won't change in the future. The way I do things is the way I see best. Maybe later I will offer multiple taper when I buy a taper shaper. As for now I do things the way I like. If it doesn't fit your liking I'm sure you will have no trouble waiting 4 years for a Tascarella or 7 years for a southwest. Ect...
I gave up the compound butt tapers. The compound taper sure made it easy for me to build stiff hitting cues but they felt uncomfortable to me, too thick. Even though they were 1.23 in the butt, they were thicker in the handle area than my 1.25" butted straight taper cues. The only real drawback from the change was my "A" joint losing a lot of diameter, but that wasn't a tough fix.
My handle is thinner because of the two angles.
I think single angle makes for thicker handle but thinner A-joint area.
