Cue for tall players

Hi, got some questions for more experienced players. I´m a 6´3 tall player. For me has been very difficult to adapt to the normal length cues, besides I´m not Willie Mosconi, I think my game would improve in a 100% if I could find a longer cue. I mean, in the 90% of the time I´m forced to hold the cue in the end, sometimes with my thumb and index to shot the ball in a "comfortable" way. I have a good stroke, but the balance of the cue is very very uncomfotable when you have to hold it in the end.

The quetions are, there are any other player with the same trouble? Where can I find a 64 or 65 inches long quality cue? Do you think it would improve my game?

Right now i have two McDermott cues 58 and 59 inches I have more control with the 59 one but stills very short.

P.S. the only tall player I´ve ever seen in a pro tournament is dave bollman, is there any other???

Thanks for the plug!

Espartaco, I will PM you my # if you want to talk. If you are around Dallas, I have a 60 and a 61" you can try.

Hi,

I am 6'6" and I have always used a standard cue. I believe it really is in how you stand versus how tall or short you are. Perhaps on the extreme ends of this, yes, but I hold the cue about 2 inches up from the bottom of the wrap and keep the cue level.

I have tried long cues and they feel uncomfortable to say the least...

I dunno, Mon. When I start reengineering your game, the 1st thing I am gonna do is stretch your stance out...!

Since I don´t live in the USA I was thinking about buying a cheap cuetec with an extension to try the feeling, if I feel comfortable with a 64" lenght (Which I think I will) I´ll buy one from you.

Please PM me your number, and a quote for a 63" inches cue shipped to Miami, Fl., not fancy at all, just wood painted black for butt, 3/8 x 10 joint (Like McDermotts), maybe irish linen grip, and a 11mm tip (Kamui soft if it´s possible). Thanks.

Length of stroke, including follow through, seems a good measure for cue length requirement. The length of your forearm may be more relevant than your height.

Tall players long cues

Elite cues make a 62 inch sneaky pete with case for $127. Its calle Elite big and tall. It has a equal butt to shaft ratio. Custore.com has them.

I think that if you extend a cue it must be done in the center..i have
been playing with a Schuler Cue with 2 extensions and a Universal
Smart Shaft..it is 74 inches long..seems i can adjust the balance point
wherever i want..it weighs 24.375 oz and the balance point is right at
24 inches..so far so good..not had to use a bridge at all and i shoot only
on 9 foot tables..got a lot of negative feedback from other players at
my hall on the length but kicked some ass with it my first day out..so..
is more better..i think so..and i will continue to play with the "Javelin"
as my fellow players have named it..they all tried it..but they didn't
work the bridge right..you have to shoot mostly open bridge..and when
i balance on a shot the Cue feels good..so i guess time will tell..SA
and by the way i am only 5'10" tall..its all repitition anyway..doing it
over and over again!!!

I'm 6' 2.5" and I prefer an evenly balanced 59 or 60 inch cue. I tend to have a long bridge, and I hate having to hold behind the wrap unless I'm really reaching for a shot. That said, I've played for almost 20 years with a standard 58 inch cue with no major drama...just always feel constrained and prefer my longer cue (long since retired). I've got a Carolina Custom coming anyday now that's 60 inches. If you can, try a cheap one or someone else's to see, but I'm sure as tall as you are you'll feel better with an exta inch or two.

I'm 6'6" also and I used to have that problem. I had to make a decision:
I had to decide what was more important, cue length, or cue deflection? I got about 10x more deflection with a longer cue (I used to own a 64" cue, 3 pieces). I needed to have an extension in the middle of my cue, custom made, in order to be able to fit all pieces in a case. If you get a long 2 piece cue, chances are it won't fit in a standard case, and you'll end up buying a custom case as well.
I have since gone back to a standard 58" cue, and I'm doing much better. I had to adapt to it, but less deflection means a better hit, for me, and more control. I think the key is adapting your grip, stance, and stroke. I've been playing competitively for about 7 years now, and I've had plenty of time to decide what's best.
Good to hear I share the same difficulties with you guys. Us tall pool players are rare. In my area, I'm the tallest.

Hi, got some questions for more experienced players. I´m a 6´5 tall player. Earl Strickland isnt tall and he plays with a cue WELL over 60" {looks like its 7' long next to him} Its a preference, I have a couple of cues that are 60" and 62" but my Omen player is 59"...

Voo~~~6'5", 350lbs, pretty as Edith Bunker

These threads always make me smile, and I will tell you why:

Guys just over 6' claiming they need longer cues, when as previous poster stated is just bad form to begin with. For example, for a right hander, holding it on the butt end and your right arm IS NOT perpendicular to the floor (yes, I am old school), or holding it on the butt end, and your left bridge hand is 18" in back of the tip. (6-8 inches was the norm when I first started playing, now 8-10" would probably be the norm).

I watched Pool players for 6 months before ever picking up a cue, and also read 3 books on Pool. I watched the best players in town, and I grew up in Dodge City, Ks.. We had several good players in town, but we also had many college guys going to St. Marys of the Plains College from back East too. One of those guys was the center of the basketball team named Jerry Govan. He was 7'1" tall, and a very good Pool player. He played with a 58" cue, had very good form except his hips were above the table, and his back sloped downward to the table, but he did not even hold the butt end on the stick when he shot. It was fairly close to the end, but not the end, so I ask you if a 7'1" player can play Pool with a 58" cue and have the proper form and mechanics, why can't you guys just barely over 6'?

Just as a footnote: Jerry later got into trouble for exposing himself to a young lady, got kicked off the basketball team, and I believe out of college.
