Cue Identification - Recent Pickup - Interesting on a Few Things...

Okay...picked this up a few days ago and it was presented as an It's George cue. I just went and picked it up from the post office.

Here's what I've found so far:

1) There is a "340" engraved by hand on the weight bolt (appears to be aluminum as a magnet wouldn't stick). There is also what appears to be a scratched in "P" on the opposite side of the weight bolt.

2) Out of curiosity, I put the magnet against the collar...it wouldn't stick...so the collar isn't Stainless Steel - although it appears to be. (I checked against my Schons and the magnet stuck to the Schon collars...so, it's not the magnet.)

3) Possible that the Delrin buttcap was replaced...

4) The inlays are not "perfectly" symmetrical...but each inlay has EXACTLY the same slight imperfection.

5) The stitch rings are not ivory (nor the "bushka" ring)...they have a specific manufactured weave pattern (the same weave pattern is found in the black material in the collars).

6) The shafts have a "standard" taper to them...

7) The rings have "popped" through the finish in the sleeve and you can see they have started tarnishing...maybe nickel silver...

8) Brass inserts in the shafts (5/16x14 thread).

9) The "bowtie" inlays do appear they could be made from "bone"...

Jason...real nice It's George cue. Congrats on getting that one. I'll bet it has a real nice hit to it.

By the way, not all stainless steel alloys are magnetic and the ones that are have varying degrees of magnetic conductance. Not sure I used the right term but I also have a Schon that a magnet will stick to the joint on and the pin which is also stainless is barely attracted by the magnet. I have other cues with stainless joints that don't attract magnets at all and the magnet I was using is a fairly powerful one.

Not all stainless is magnetic, so the collar certainly can be stainless steel.

Look's right for It's George.....but I'm not 100% sure. Very cool cue.

EDIT: OK, so somebody already said not all stainless is magnetic...I just saw that...so consider what I said to be a "confirmation".

Thanks Doc!!! I did get ahold of Gulyassy and described the cue to him (no pictures) and he said that yes, it does sound like an It's George. I was 99% sure it was a George, especially after getting it in my hands and seeing the engraved weight bolt was a big plus...

There are electroplated brass collars that look very much like stainless also, and a magnet obviously wouldn't stick to them either. Not saying it's what's on your new cue, but they are around.

I didn't know this either! It "feels" like it's steel...and my guess is that it's likely a steel alloy that isn't magnetic like Kevin described above. Thanks for the comments!

I'm pretty sure you're right on the "keeper" part! It isn't "pristine", but hopefully after I have a little work done to her, she'll find a nice spot in the wall-rack!!!

It's George. I talked to the owner on the phone. It is a nice George, but not Schick. If I am right, it was the 241st cue they made. I believe the first started with 100. Nice pick up.
