Cue Pass-Around Idea

Hey All,

I know this was brought up a while ago, but never went anywhere as far as I know. I've seen this on blade forum's and it seems to be a successful model on getting products in the hands of different people. Have any new cue-makers considered doing this with one of their cues? I think a list of 5 people who all would commit to testing the cue for maybe three days or so and writing a short review would go miles for getting some info out there on different cuebuilders.

Food for thought!

I agree, would be a really fun thing to participate in. I'm guessing the reason it doesn't happen is that cues tend to be move expensive than most pass-around knives and shipping a cue is also more expensive and potentially risky (damage) then a knife, though a good case for it would go a long way.

I've done a few BF knife passarounds though and they are a good time and a neat way to try out something new without spending more than the cost of shipping.

I did this in the past with a Crown Cue, it went very well and the cue traveled all over the country.

I don't see a lot of merit to the idea....the cue-maker would need to have several, multiple cues in circulation.....doing 1 or 2 accomplishes little.......better to sell 5-10 new cues at great prices to people who'll post reviews.......from the cue-maker's perspective, these individuals testing the circulated cue have to be at the top of their peer group for their comments to be persuasive and influential.

Eventually, the cue-maker winds up with a bunch of used cues......hopefully still in very good condition but who knows. I think that if the cue-maker is talented, rather than run of the mill, he wouldn't, and shouldn't, need to do this to garish attention or drum up business. There's more to be gained if cue-makers put more thought into improving their merchandising and brand marketing via social media, more modern websites, creating a brand image .....why buy X cues.......you can buy any cue but why buy X's.....branding...messaging....what does the cue-maker signify.....embody.......that's where cue-makers should look to change.......they are missing the boat.....IMHO.

pass around cue.

Hell, I'll do it. I'll make a very simple but nice playing cue and you guys tell me what you think. Just give me about 2-3 months to throw something together and then I'll get a list of who to send it to. I don't need any extra business per say but I would love to hear feedback from solid players.

I can't remember who did it but someone contracted 5 builders to build similar cues but not sign them. Then they were shipped around and people had to rank them. Kind of neat.

** I'd be in the test a cue and give a thorough review.

Dean,

So what happens if the person that paid $100 doesn't like the cue? They just paid you $100 to "rent" the cue for a few days?
