Cue Picture! Who Made it? Who can Make it?

Hello everybody, Thanks for taking your time to look up into this thread. First of all I'd like to post a picture of the cue, It has some japanies words/designs, I'd guess its a japanies cuemaker who made it, and lets hope he comes into these parts. If not I would also love if one of the fine cuemakers here can make for me Just like this design.

I'm not sure why but this reminds me of his style. Though I wasn't aware he wasn't doing cues with skrimshaw. However, I'm probably way off.

Also, is it just me or is the top picture of just a forearm? But it is completely finished minus the finish. Does anyone else build their cues like this? We have the forearm, handle, sleeve, and cap glued together long before we start inlaying.

I like that he put a little wrap on the joint protector. Mike, our wrap guy, has done the same thing with a couple JP's. I thought it looked sharp.

Just to let you know how good this cue really is, it is a Mottey as Bill alluded to in his post. The top two portions of your picture are actually pictures of the joint end of the shafts, not an unfinished forearm. Yes, if you can believe it, they are shafts with points and inlays!!!!!! The two pictures at the bottom end are actually pictures of the forearm from the wrap rings upward toward the joint. Take a look at motteycues.com and look in the gallery of scrimshawn cues. There are a couple of other cues that were similarly made. I may be insulting the owner, but I believe this cue is priced well over $10,000.
 
Thanks all, for all your replies, They really helped me well =) Now I know that this cu e is made by Mottey, one of the greatest cue makers that ever lived if I May add. This is a brilliant work I have to say.

I would love to know who have this cue right now, a friend of mine who happened to love this cue and want to own it, He doesn't use the internet, Hence i'm making this post for him. so he keep asking me everyday :P

he want this cue or something similier to it, He love the art, he like swords inlaid, also he want to know if any other Cue Maker can actually make something similier to this, with all due respect to mottey ofcourse, but even if the work can be little far from this, but little similier, It would be accepted, please let me know

This cue is on Mottey's web site. This picture says it is owned by Bill Stroud.

This is my cue. It is a box cue design that I had Paul Mottey make for me several years ago. It does indeed have two inlaid shafts. The overall cue is stunning. I took delivery in 2002. I also own the other similar Samurai Warrior cue on Paul Mottey`s website.

The picture on the website says it is owned by me.

Thanks for the nice comments about the cue. Paul Mottey`s work here is phenomenal!

Thnx for the pic. I've been eyeballing stingray for a wrap. Even sanded down thin I wasn't to sure if it would be practical.

Hi Duane,

Good to hear from you! I REALLY enjoyed Magoo`s poolroom in Tulsa. A real poolroom, with real action! 3 days went quick. Recently I saw and spoke with Buddy Hall at Shooters Olathe, the first I had seen him since Tulsa. Also Eddie Farris.

I picked up a great Gus Szamboti and a fancy 1985 Schick in Tulsa, and I am enjoying them both.

IMHO....to attempt to replicate the designs in that cue would be cue design theft in it's highest form. The closest that I may suggest would be perhaps a samurai sword done in a wood intarsia (sp?)...the best at that being the fine folks at Samsara. It would still allow your friend the opportunity to use the sword motif...but in a truly unique fashion.

Thanks Will. :) I see lots of cues that I would love to own, because they are aesthetically pleasing...but would I ask a maker to replicate one....no. Just like I would not want anyone with my designed cue, I do not wish to replicate someone else's designed cue.

If I liked a particular theme I had seen used in a cue, I would then attempt to see if I could find a different and unique way in which to use that theme....and then seek out the appropriate maker to execute it for me.

I have to admit, it would really bother me to see my exact same spec'd cue in someone else's hands...it would bother me a LOT!

Thats very nice, and guys thanks for the replies. Ibuycues your cue is awesome, and to clear up myself I didn't want to replicate the cue or steal anything, It's just that my friend likes it so much, thats basically it. Sorry if some people miss understand me in any way. I wouldn't do anything bad if i knew its not allowed. and this cue designer is awesome, I heard he's retired. I will maybe send a PM to Ibuycues to offer him something for his cue and hopefully he can sell it.

.... And as one poster mentioned, the cue price when built was far in excess of $10000.

I think I would have been surprised...shocked even, had it been for sale, Will. :)

BTW...the box cue featured in one of the ICCS interviews is just AMAZING! I believe you will know of which one I speak. :wink: Does that have the ivory sleeved over the SS sleeved joint that was mentioned by the maker?
