Cue Refinishing advice needed

I have a couple of cues that I want to get refinished.

I am considering sending them to Proficient Billiards.
I am sending a old Scruggs and a Gilbert J/B.

Scruggs needs a whole refinish, new wrap, shafts refinished, a ferrule change, and new tips.

Gilbert needs a whole refinish and tip.
 
I've seen some of their work, you won't be disappointed and the price is great, from what I remember.
 
Scot @ Proficient does a GREAT JOB!!!! and he is easy to deal with.

You cannot go wrong with Proficient Billiards. They do superb jobs with refinishing cues. Highly recommended.

They do good work, however I'm sending the scruggs back to Tim and Mike if its mine.

Might be worth a quote on time and costs. No disrepsect but refinishing isnt what Tim is known for, so unless very close on price and delievery I would just send it to Scott at Proficient.

Mike Webb refinished my webb , I then put into storage when I saw the results!
Do I have to say more?
Very resonable he has a website!:grin:

Ken I suspect that Tim will cost more and take longer. I also think he is in the top tier of cuemakers, and that when he stops making cues his will only go up in value. Believe Scot can do every bit as good of a job, but at times having someone else refinish a cue only drops the value.

Just my .02, and what I would do if it was mine.
 
I think that the level of cue would have an impact on the value after having a different maker refinish the cue. If it is a high end TS, then I would definately have Tim/Mike redo the cue. If it were a simple sneaky, I would not have any issues with Scott at Proficient redo the cue.

I recently contacted a cue builder and he wanted $250.00.. Then proceeded to tell me how difficult it is to tape off the wrap.. LOL!!!! Taping off a wrap maybe takes 15 minutes... I'd send it to Proficient... That is where my cue is going..

Scott does a great job and wil go the extra mile, great communication skills and quik turnaround.

I just recently had a Schon refinished by Scot @ Proficient and the cue came back in perfect condition, at his shop for approximately a week. He answers the phone when you call. They refinish a lot more cues than a typical cue builder so I would actually prefer Proficient at a refinish than the original maker just because he has so much more experience.

I'm not trying to beat this damn horse even after he is dead, but I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference is my point. If it an obviously wrong (ie, Rambow with todays typical finish for example) sure I agree with you.

I had a one of the top 5 cuemakers in the country refinish his own cue and it wasnt as good as when I had Scot do it.

I understand you are giving your opinion on what YOU would do, but as someone who had done lots of these I have quite a bit of experience. Cuemakers are notoriely slow and miss schedules, it happens. This is exactly why Scot is successful, IMO, quick turnaround, excellent quality and low prices.

Good work

I had Scott at proficient refinish a couple of cues (older Hueblers) and he did a great job!
