Cue table problem with Mac

I've got a Mac and when I try and open a thread with a cue table layout it says: Need to open in 32 bit. It tells me to go to Safari/App and then more info and change to 32 bit but I don't see where I do this. I'm not very computer literate, obviously, and want to know how to do this and what 32 bit means and if it will negatively effect my computer in any way. Thanks for ANY help :)

When you hear terms like 16 bit and 32 bit applications, or operating systems, the 'bit' is referring to the length of a command (instruction if you will).

So.. if you have an application that is giving your computer's browser instructions that are 32-bits in length, and you're browser is only able to understand instructions that are 16-bits in length.. you can see where this might be an issue.

Safari should have a 32 bit version out, and it won't hurt your Mac at all. As far as where to change this... It will probably be under the 'Preferences' on the options menu. There is probably a 'Help' as well, but I'm not sure.
You may want to get on a Mac or Safari board and ask, as there will probably be a lot more people that will be able to be very specific on where to go.

I'm sure there will be some here as well.. but percentage wise, it'll be a lot less.

Hope this has helped some.

I have the latest version of Snow Leopard and Cuetable diagrams have never been right. You have to make sure you have the very, very latest version of Shockwave for the Mac. Even then, it's glitchy.

I'm on a mac with latest version of Snow Leopard. I can help you later on when I get home. The cuetable works fine on it.

When I scroll the screen, it might disappear on certain frames as I scroll. If you know how to fix this (I'm a mac novice), I'd like to know too.

When I click/drag balls around, they leave remnants on my screen as well.

Need help too-

I just downloaded firefox(I was using Safari before) and I can open and see the cue table now whereas before the cuetable wouldn't even show up on the page. I googled my problem and couldn't find a resolution from what they were saying to do so I figured I would give firefox a try. I don't know how old yours is but mine is only a couple months old and this worked for me. I know next to nothing about this stuff so I don't have any other ideas. Best of luck.

Basically the difference between 32 and 64 bit is that 64 bit will use extra juice in your computer's processor to make everything run faster. Like if you have a dual core processor, the 32 bit might use just one core but the 64 bit will use both.

Apple's latest version of safari runs as a 64 bit program automatically.
This looks like a good step by step to force it to run as a 32 bit program:

If that doesn't work, manually uninstall shockwave first... then go to adobe's site and re-download the latest shockwave installer and reinstall it.

I'm not a mac user but PC shockwave isn't much better it seems like. When I scroll around with a cuetable on screen, the table violently jumps around and flickers. Sometimes my mousewheel won't scroll the page anymore, and of course things may hitch or slow down. Not sure who's to blame really, it's a complex thing... you have shockwave itself, you have the guys writing code for it to make diagrams, you have directx or something else responsible for talking to your video card to make sure it draws the diagrams properly, you have the browser that has to support the embedded images...

The link CreeDo posted is correct on how to change Safari to 32 bit mode. However, there is one omission in the instrucions. In "step 2" you have to click on "Get Info" on the pop up menu once you right click on the Safari Icon. This will take you to Step 3. This was missing from the instructions.

If you do this, Safari should work ok. The reason Firefox worked for you, is it is only a 32 bit application, where as Safari is 64 or 32, and is set by Apple to 64 by default.

I use Macs at home, and PC's at work. Cuetable is buggy on all of them. Its not Mac vs PC. Its something with Cuetable or Adobe.

There is one other thing of note: Wei, the developer of the table has stated that there were two versions of Adobe Shockwave. One is a "light" version, and one is a "full" version. YOu need the full version for Cuetable to work the best. THis is true for both Mac and PC. This info was current about a year ago. I do not know if it still is. I recall at the time, it was tricky navigating Adobe's site to find the "full" version. And the automatic installations were the "light" version. I'll try to investigate this further, and write back.

Firefox will remain your best bet for media that doesn't display properly in Safari. I don't even bother to look at threads with CueTable posts in Safari any more; I just open the links in Firefox. The same goes for certain video formats.

Those are the one's CreeDo. Thanks for finding them.

So in summary,

Mac:
For Safari, switch it to 32 bit mode and also download the FULL Adobe Shockwave installer.

For Firefox, its already in 32 bit mode. Also download the FULL Adobe Shockwave installer.

Windows:
For Windows, Get Firefox, and also download the FULL Adobe Shockwave installer.
