Randy Goettlicher (BCA Master Instructor) is holding a 3 day Pool School at Champion's Billiards in Frederick Maryland, July 25 -27. The cost is $500and the school is from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day. Limited to 14 students.

Does anyone on AZ have any experience with this school or Randy? Sounds like a very good deal.

The website is www.poolschool.info and Randy's email is randyg@poolschool.net

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Um, like, Yeah?

Scott Lee held a school in Harrisburg, PA, and six of the eight students introduced themselves first with their real names and then their AZBilliards forum handle.

It seems a lot of people as well as myself have found these guys on this message board.

I would have paid twice the asking price and felt like I came away with more than a great value.

Both are great ambassadors for the game.

I attended Randy's traveling pool school 7 or 8 years ago in CT. It will make your brain hurt. They put you through a lot of workshops.

It was well worth the money back then.

What types of things are tought? How do they break this down to last 3 days? What can a player who is considered a good pool player learn that he doesn't already know?

If you go in with an open mind and a willingness to learn, it will DEFINITELY improve your game. If you go in thinking that you know it all, don't waste your money.

They focus on developing a repeatable, consistent stroke. They do this by breaking down the pre-shot routine and your stroke mechanics into piece parts. Then concentrate on each individual piece, then bring it all together. What you end up with is a set of drills - and knowledge of how and why those drills will help you improve. They also do a video analysis - before and after - of your stroke. If you've never had a video analysis of your stroke you will find this most helpful.

I went a week and a half ago. It was money well spent for me. My class had a mix of students ranging from 2-7 in APA/TAP skill levels. I think everyone of us, with one possible exception, learned a lot of useful information. The one exception wasn't as open to instruction.

Another important note is that once you have paid full price for one session, you can go back in subsequent years for $100 - FREE if you bring a paying customer. Randy and Scott really do this to help their students improve their games continuously.

To add to MikeM's post;

They cover extensively things like stance, grip, bridge, bridge length, very important eye patterns, follow through, and one of my favorites an introduction to SAM. SAM is an aiming method.

IMO, anybody from a beginner to pro could benefit from this class, if you are willing to let go of what you think you know and apply what they teach you to your game.

Been there. Done that. Worth every penny.

But it is not what goes on in those three days, it is your willingness to work on what you have learned for at least six week subsequently - without playing.
You have to embed what you have learned so that you don't revert to bad habits.

If you won't make the commitment you will be just paying a lot of money to hear Randy's stories.

I took the class several years ago, after having played for over 30 years. I wondered how much I could learn. In 3 days, I learned more than I ever got in 30 years! The course material was so impressive, I decided I had to teach this course. That is why I became a certified instructor.
I have had the pleasure of teaching with Randy and Scott a few times, and I still manage to learn new things every time we teach together.

For anyone in the southeast, Randy and company will be holding a class in Charlotte, NC in September. If you have the opportunity to attend, jump on it! But as others have said, be willing to be a student. Go in with an open mind, and you will come away more than satisfied.

I went to the school last year in Providence RI. This year I went to the course again as a refresher. It is a fantastice experience. Very well organized and very well taught. Notebooks are given to everyone. Thorough explanations for everything that is taught. A good mixture of classroom time and table practice time. A lot of research has been done to go into detail as to why you should do what they teach, from eye patterns to bridge length to follow through. Both Randy and Scott are very knowledgeable and patient instructors. One of the things that makes them so good is that they seem to really like what they do.I cannot image someone not getting a lot out of this program.
After the three day workshop I stayed on with Randy and we did an advanced class. He covered some very interesting topics. We did a lot of kicking systems, tangent line drills as well as some other interesting topics. Again this was worth every penny. I was lucky with the advanced class. I was the only one in it. This gave me Randy's undivided attention. It was a lot of fun working with Randy for about twelve hours one on one.

Wedge...There will not be 14 students. That is far too big a class for one instructor (although there is another BCA instructor who DOES hold classes that large by himself...I wouldn't waste my money on that one). We try to focus on one-to-one attention to detail for each student, which is not possible when the classes exceed more than just a few students. As an example, we had 10 students in Richmond, and 5 instructors. The following week, in Wash. DC, we had 8 students and 5 instructors. You have the cost wrong. It is only what you quoted, because the APA league operator is partially subsidizing the course for HIS league area members only. There are probably more than 150 AzB members who have attended our 3-day schools (which routinely receive RAVE reviews), across the country...and another couple of hundred who have worked with Randy or I privately. Several top pro players have attended our schools.
