Cue vs Stick

I have been catching a lot of flack over this for the past few months.

Let me preface this by saying I am a decent shot for a leaguer. I play at a low - mid B to a very high C speed on an off day.

So I was wondering why I always get "shafted" for calling a cue a "stick". Ive been playing all my life. My dad plays better than I. My uncle plays better than both of us. Both my grandfathers played. And we all call them sticks.

When I look at others' cues, I always comment "that is a nice stick, who made it?"; or something to that effect. And I always get the stink eye for it.

So What say you.........Cue or Stick?

Pool cue, cue and cuestick are all acceptable in my opinion. I don't have that big of a problem with just stick, but I don't use that phrase.
 
Cue, Stick, Twig, Whatever! Who are these people to give you the stink eye for calling a twig a stick?:eek:
 
I have a stick. Just like I have an animal and a car.

Call me a redneck. Maybe if I ever own a cue of significant value, I will address it correctly...

Makes no difference, my older brothers used to refer to a good player as "he shoots a good stick". Maybe it's a midwest term, not sure. Whether ya call it a cue or stick everybody knows what ya mean.
Maybe you are playing with some "snooty" league players. Always consider the source and take it for what it's worth. JMHO:cool:
 
LOL, you just hit one of my pet peeves head on.

CUE. = sports equipment. STICK= refers to a long, slender piece of wood, usually a branch from a tree without the leaves

why stick? because it's made with wood? so are a billion other products, why not start calling your Car a metal, or your computer a plastic? they are made using those materials afterall. If you want to go on calling your cue a stick, why not call it a tree? log? or a stump? or something else made with wood... your pool telephone pole?

When i was a kid it was called a Cue Stick.

What do you call a boomarang that doesn't come back? A stick.

I also have some pet peeves, I just don't care to let them be known.

Why not call a pool player using a cue stick the same as a baseball player that uses a bat?

Both are hitting balls?

if you insist on calling it a stick rip a branch off a tree and tell me how it plays.

It depends. If you are describing a situation where there might be confusion between "cue stick" and "cue ball" you need the word "stick" in there. People who get offended by shortening "cue stick" to "stick" should find better things to be offended by, like ending a phrase with a preposition or the monetary policy of Luxembourg.
 
Mine is a stick.If it is someone elses I say"nice cue".

A pool player can be a stick also,but never a cue.Cuesit?

There was a thread a week or so ago where it was pupported that people who referred to cues as sticks were numbskull bangers-maybe that is the inspiration for this thread?
 
Doesn't matter what I call it

The danged thing won't come when I call it so why would it matter what I call it?

I call it a cue, I call it a stick, sometimes I call it a no good sorry piece of . . .

Or you could throw your stick across the yard and see if your dog will fetch it.:grin-square:
 
I call them "Pot Passers", just like Jed Clampet did in that Beverly Hillbilly episode when they ate dinner on the pool table.:D
