Cue warp & heat tolerance

By way of example... Weather forecast today: Sunny in mid to upper
80's. I want to shoot this afternoon in a far away (not my "home") pool hall before I tee off nearby. It's unfeasible to drive my cues home. If I keep them in my car, park in the shade, lay my cues flat in their hard case inside the car, keep the direct sun off, and crack the windows - do I still run the risk of warping? Should I open my case a little for some ventilation? How much heat can cues take...

An aside - My Clevelands never warp, but my putter is showing signs of cracking

Thanks in advance!

This will only work if you lay 3 1/2 thick blankets over the case.

IMO...Key part to your taking care of the situation is parking in the shade and making sure your car stays in the shade as the sun moves around.
Obviously baking cues in car is not good for the wood. But if you keep the inside of the car the same as the outside temp I don't foresee any problems. Please read my disclaimer............!

Good laugh on that Dave! My pet, eh? Ok, inventor opportunity. Climate controled storage for cues in cars that runs on 12 volt cigarette lighter socket...

I guess I'll leave my pet at home and play Efren with a house cue then. Gee whiz... I never thought billiards was so complicated until I started asking questions!

Really tho - Thanks again gents

I was a design engineer for the Westclox clock company. We used to make millions of clocks, for automotive companies. The reason digital clocks & watches were invented was to replace the electric, gear driven clocks in the dashboard. Why? Because our tests showed that under the dash of a car sitting in the sun, the temperatures rose to 150 degrees ferenheit. It doesn't take very long & all of the oil & grease would just dry up & the clock would stop. Think twice about leaving your dog or your pool cue in the car...JER

Parked in the shade, with the case on the back floor, it shouldn't be a problem.

On the other, hand don't leave it under the dash board in the sun.

When I travel or leave my cues in the car I wrap them up in a pene, ton wool blanket so far my cues dont get hot the get a little warm but not like leaving them in the sun.

You mught ask the pro shop or manager if you can leave them in office or under the counter for awhile since you are probably paying $00 or better for tee time. Its worth asking.

Buy yourself a $350 sneaky for these situations and leave your good wood at home.

Just don't do it!!

If I have to go somewhere that I have to leave my cue in the car for...then I do not take my cue, but will just grab a stick off the wall.

Besides the risk of warpage, you are also risking with some finishes, clouding.

Add to that that most of the stolen cue threads I have seen involve cues being stolen out of the car...it's just not worth it to me to take even the small risk...my cue is my baby, and I treat it accordingly.
