First let me say I am a potential customer. I own many cues and I like to buy them. I dont even sell them I just like to collect them. Mostly fancy cues but some simple ones with very nice wood. I may just order a cue from any one of you guys!
Now with that out of the way I would like you to see how your actions look to REAL potential customers. I realy didnt mind when the other cuemakers slammed Varney for bad customer service. I thought that was warrented. I have been reading all of these threads concerning the various cuemaker problems going on here and I am very disapointed. E.W. comes on here and apperently makes a good cue at a very reasonable cost. From my perspective it seems many other cuemakers are threatened by this. They attack evrything they can about him. His knowelge, his quality, his character, and his advertising. Now I admit his advertising is anoying but it doesnt hurt anybody. If the Mods allow it then thats all that needs to be said. It realy seems that many cuemakers just hate the idea of somebody selling a good product too cheap. Not to mention he has made coments like "its not rocket science" or "Its just a piece of wood" I can see how this gets under your skin. Now it seems he is getting attacked for every little thing that he can be attacked for. I will admit that the guy who is mad at him for being late with his cue has ever right to be but the rest of you dont. If this becomes a pattern with E.W. then that is different but this seems to be his first time being late so cut him some slack. For the cuemaker that posted his record. I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE BUY A CUE FROM HIM. He is disgusting. I dont care how he justifies his actions, it doent matter. He is the worst thing I have seen on this site. PERIOD. I am also very disapointed in the other cuemakers who are dog pilling on E.W. There is no need for this and in all honesty you look like a$$holes. I have not ruled any of you out yet but a couple are very close to being on my never buy from list. Now as of right now I would not buy a Wheat cue either. They just dont look fancy enough for me and even if I was going to buy one from him I would wait to hear more feed back. I do not know him or even like him and I have only known of him from reading all of these posts. The ENTIRE REASON for my post is to let tell you guys how you look when you go on and on attacking another cuemaker this way. I hope you realize how bad this makes you guys look to your customers.
Not all of the cuemakers act like this only a few of them. One even offered to send some shaft wood to help out. Well guess what. Thats the first guy I would look at when considering a new cue. You see, he is not threatened by another cuemaker. He may have made a sale just by being kind and proffesional.
Please do not turn this into another bashing thread or try to justify your actions by pointing out what "he said" or what "he did" Thats not the piont. I am just giving my opinion of how your actions have effected me, your potential customer. Maybe I am the only guy who feels this way(probably not) but even if I am, thats one less cue you might have sold.

Nobody is threatened by Eddie Wheat. What they are is annoyed.

Dale

Even if nobody is threatend, they apear that way to me I could be wrong but it doesnt matter. They also apear extremly unperfesional when they continualy attack him. My point is, this post has very little to do with him. It has to do with the way I perceive my possible cue maker. I do not want to give my money to a vengfull, bitter, angry, jealous, MEAN, unprofesional person. Now obviosly not all of those adjectives apply, but some due. Posting a link to any E.W. post doesnt matter. You just dont get it. I am actualy trying to help YOU GUYS.
Do any of you honestly think that ist good for your buisiness to be on a public forrum kicking a man when he is down? Seriously? Realy?
Think about it. I dont personaly know any of the cuemakers on this site. But becuase of some of thier actions I DONT LIKE SOME OF THEM. That should speak volumes.

I appreciate the fact you are trying to to be a peace maker here. You are right that the EW threads and other threads of those types make tempers flare and leave a lot of really good cuemakers looking like jerks. I agree with Dale that most are feeling annoyed instead of threatened. I have no axe to grind with anyone, so I have stayed out of most of those types of threads. I really wish the "Ask a Cuemaker" forum could get back to that and not be the "Knock a Cuemaker" forum.

You have a lot of reading to do - not all of it still here

The posting of Wheat's criminal record was inappropriate, but most of the other criticism was provoked by EW himself -- and he won't let the drumbeats fade.

If you really want to understand the source of other cuemakers' annoyance with EW, go back to January or so, when he started his advertising campaign. Read as much of the history as is still available. Unfortunately, some of the threads have been removed, so you'll miss out of some of Wheat's more provocative comments, as well as the firestorms they produced.

Even so, there are still plenty of comments that would justifiably offend any cuemaker who takes pride in his profession and his product. Pay special attention when EW suddenly announces, after proclaming himself the Next Big Thing, that he doesn't have the seasoned shaft wood to fill his orders. How do you think that sits with cuemakers who have been at it for years, who take pride in their profession, and who have endured months of EW's pontificating? Do you think it reflects well on the business in general?

I know and respect one of the cuemakers who was an early EW critic. He's a master crafstman and an honorable man. He was offended by practices that in his opinion demeaned all cuemakers. I don't blame him.

The whole EW drama is fascinating, in a distasteful way. It has started to fade several times. Ever notice who keeps it alive?

Explain to me why any of the trangressions you mentioned should matter one iota to a cue maker who is confident in his ability to produce a great cue?

There are at least a few cuemakers that would like to see the industry cleaned up. Conduct such as that in question is a detriment to that end.

Definitions of transgression on the Web: the violation of a law or a duty or moral principle;
An act that goes beyond generally accepted boundaries; the action of going beyond or overstepping some boundary or limit

I don't write Cliff Notes.

Like I said, read Eddie's posts. Imagine that you're a cuemaker. Imagine that you take pride in what you do. Imagine that you've put years into it and you work nights and weekends, and you're far from getting rich. Imagine that the Cuemaker forum has been a haven for cooperation and the sharing of experience and advice. Once you've read the history (as much as Mr. Wilson will allow), explain why Eddie gets a pass for his boorish behavior.

I don't endorse all of the insults and personal attacks launched against EW -- most of which weren't posted by other cuemakers. My point is that the professional criticism from other cuemakers about Eddie's practices is justified. And most of his critics would have remained silent if Eddie wouldn't have provoked them. So if Eddie wants to keep the shitstorm going, that's his prerogative. Don't condemn others for their indignation if you haven't read the record.

LOL, clean up the Industry?Condem others? Like I said ,and maybe you should take notes, it does not matter what EW does, unless your reading the EW sopa opera instead on making sawdust. Only those who felt threatened by EW got involved.

I don't think any cuemaker feels threatened by Eddie Wheat. Offended? Yes. Threatened? No.

That brings you back to the OP's whole point, offended people eventually offended potential customers by not being able to let go and just build cues.

First of all, this thread belongs elsewhere, like the main forum, as it is not asking any cuemakers any question related to the forum section we are in.
Secondly, I won't comment further on this topic, atleast until it is moved to an appropriate section, as it isn't right to continue the 'Eddie Drama Series' in this section. I hope most cuemakers will agree, and hopefully Mr. Wilson will oblige.
Dave

It is my opinion that some are threatened and those seem to be the ones who are doing the most attacking.
Actually, most who are attacking are not even makers.
Take away me and Dave, most are just azb'rs.

Matt, you made your point, several times in fact.
Give it a rest and let this forum be used for what its intended for.
