Cuemakers... who plays the best?

I'm told Pete Tascarella plays very sporty...still wins quite a few local tournies. And I've heard from folks that ran with him back in the day that Jerry Rauenzahn could play. I'd imagine most cue makers can play a little (B level or higher), based on their love of building cues.

I was just curious as to, out of the cuemakers out there... who plays/played the best

and anyone who says Siegel should just go ahead and slap themselves (plays great, but I don't consider him a cuemaker...)

the two that come to mind for me are

Bobby Hunter and Joe Gold

what other cuemakers out there play at top speed?
Shane shoot pretty good with them cutec!

There is a simple formula for this very question. If you average Craftsmanship+quantity+level of play= best cuemaker / player

Here is why. Take Seigel for instance, great player but did he make each and every one of those cues and truthfully is the amount of work put into them the same as say a cue from Paul Mottey, who also plays. If going off of just building a cue, efren could slap a sneaky pete together and be the best builder player.

FWIW, there is a difference between the best cuemaker / player and the best player / cuemaker. Siegel, Putnam and a few others would be in the player / builder category.

I think you missed the point of the thread...He's asking which cue builders shoot the best not which cues shoot the best...
Ooops....you are correct! I was a bit overanxious to make a wisecrack about yet another 'best playing cue' thread!
Sorry. Thanks.

AH HA

thank you... this makes perfect sense!!!

I should have phrased my question as.... who is the best player, who makes a living by making and selling their cues LOL

In my personal category of 'best player/cue-maker'......
...Bobby Hunter gets first prize.

Bobby is a world 14.1 champion....
...and his cues will be valuable collectors items long after he's gone.

Dan Janes was a road player turned cue maker and his Joss line has not done to bad.

I don't know how involved Mr. Runde is above his local league/pool night, but a very strong cue maker.

It's always been Stroud in all games till Hunter got into it, but right now bobby would have his hands full in One hole with Billy, probably wouldn't like it. Strouds in his seventies now with a bad eye.

I don't think very many people here are old enough to know, but Tim Scruggs was (and might still be) a very strong player. He, Dan Janes, and Bill Stroud were, after all, very good players back in the late 60s, when they founded Joss Cues. Anyway, Tim could hold it with the best. Notwithstanding the pro tournament/cue makers, such as Sigel, Hunter, and Gulassey.

By the way, Harvey Martin reportedly had a strong carom game.

I only had only one good eye last year but was able to get the other one fixed.

For the first time in over five years I can see perfectly again. If I miss a ball it's not because I can't see.

Late last year in a gambling match giving 10 to 6, trying a new break, I broke and ran 10 and out. That was a first for me. Pretty tight table at Kolby's too.
