Cuetec Fires Strickland

The whole cue will be disguised and the shafts painted and sanded so that they look exactly the same. They will be smooth to the touch.
This reminds me of a good story.

If any of you know Big Arm John you will laugh.

I go into the pool room one day and John is there knocking them around. We start to talk and I notice his cue. It's a black cheap looking piece of crap. Now if you know John, he plays with NICE cues the kind that cost 5k+ nice.

I say " John, what the hell are you playing with?" he replies " My Josswest"

I'm like "WHAT???"

He goes on to tell me the week before he had action set up in a bar out of town and all he had with him was his Ivory laden bad ass Josswest. He knew this would spook the fish.

So he spray painted it !!!!! He scratched the butt with his nail and sure enough there was the little JW. He said "It comes right off with lighter fluid, won't hurt it at all"

I saw the cue a few months later and sure enough it looked just like before the stealth makeover.

Perception is a powerful thing.

Are you on something or what? Your the one who added the totally unnecessary remark at the end of your post. If it makes you that mad coming here, just go. Not mad, just go away.....

I'm not mad. I'm just poking fun at the ones who are. This entire thread is unnecessary; that doesn't stop you (or me) from posting to it. I just like to make fun of emotion based arguments now and again. If you don't like it, I guess you can just go. :D

Now THAT is funny!!!

Kinda like Aaron's barber pole cue. Man, the first time I saw that cue I had to laugh my ass off. If that cue wasn't an action magnet then I don't know what is. Pink and white spiral stripes. Now Jacoby is making them and selling a bunch I hear.

Thanks for the laugh - we need it in this thread.

- Go Earl, get well, get a cue you like, and kick ass. And be nice.

The only American-made crap I see right now is your posts on this thread.

Funny!
Can't give you any more REP right now but I love to give REP to anyone who makes me laugh.

Cuetec might not make a cue that most would want to shoot with. But they contribute alot to the game. Especially to the womans tour. I sure enjoy watching the tournaments they sponsor on ESPN. So for that they deserve some respect in my book, even though I personally do not choose to shoot with a Cuetec. I do respect what they do for the game of pool. Good luck to you Earl. Get a new stick and kick some butt.

What'll be funny is when he's playing in his next tournament and has to pull out a cuetec because he's playing so poorly with whatever he switches to. It'll be a transition for him. Personally, I don't see how anyone can play with a cuetec.

You'll see how great those metal Cuetec cues are in the coming months. The way they have chosen to dismiss American champion Earl Strickland is disgusting.

Buy American cues. Help support American cuemakers.

USA, all the way. USA, all the way. USA, all the way!

Dear Lord.
Does it make Earl a hypocrite for playing with Cuetec cues for almost two decades and waving the American flag?
I remember a story told to me by a custom cuemaker from Colorado. He and his friend were watching Earl play Efren in Vegas. He and his friend were openly cheering for Efren. Earl looks at them and asks, " why are you cheering for him? I'm the American guy here." The friend nicely answers Earl, " that's a nice American cue you have."
Efren was playing with an American made cue. Unpaid.

This discussion seems to have taken an interesting turn here. Can an inexpensive cue hold back a top player? Or are the top players good enough to be able to win with any (reasonable) cue?
JAM, did Keith's game suffer when he was shooting with a Fury? Or was he good enough to adapt to the cue?
Could Allison be better with a Viking cue?
Would I be a better player if I switched to a Schon?

Is it the cue, or the player?

Steve
Great point here. I have seen some of the best players around here play well no matter what cue they used. It's called ADAPTING. Any pro worth a grain of salt will NEVER blame the cue.

Blaming Cuetec for finally seeing the light and canning that POS is like blaming the gun for the scumbag who pulled the trigger. Cuetec was all fine and dandy for 17 years but now that they canned this ignorant POS, it's suddenly a piece of junk? Give me a break!!

Here's a copy 'n paste from Allison's website... fwiw...

Q. Even though you play with a Cuetec cue, do you play with it "right out of the box" or do you have your cues modified such as tips, shaft, taper, etc. and do you have someone local do your work for you?

A. I do use an out of the box Cuetec. All that I ask for is a 56 inch cue. The average cue length is 58 inches. Other than that I use a mori tip and a local guy named Kevin does my tip changing.

A friend of mine just took some lessons from Allison a few months back and she demonstrated deflection to him.

She said her cue had a huge amount of deflection but that she had gotten used to it. She demonstrated deflection to him, with her cue being a good teacher's aid LOL.

Don't Be Like Bourbon Street

I'm prepared to let Earl borrow my Wayne Gunn sneaky-pete cue.

( if he promises not to rake the balls with it )

Good luck to Earl. Maybe in future we will see him throwing the cue on the floor even harder......or maybe not anymore......:D

Hey Ocean Web, how do those words taste that you promised to eat? Just wondering. I didn't see your acknoweldgement that you were proven wrong on your own terms. Guess it's hard to type when you are choking.

What I said is true....that is no pro player using a CueTec unless that player is sponsored by the company or one of it's affiliates.

And since I'm not that far from you, I can come to your shop with my $1000 as soon as you're through painting those shafts. I will be backing a well known player, and we are going to split your cash

Just do the math

We can all think what we want about Ear;'s abilities or conduct but I have to question Cuetec's business sense. I'm not familiar with the financial aspects of his endorsement deal but I can definitely see the "Earl Factor" at work. Who else can get 16 Pages, 230 Posts and 6200 views in two days?

Yes they made the correct business decision here. I'm starting a new tomato garden in the back. Please ship your Cuetecs to my address prepaid. The Graphite is real resistant to the wet weather around here. They should cut AF loose and turn to making ski poles.

Oh man you are the king of the weasles here buddy. I guess Mark Tadd and Troy Frank aren't PRO-ENOUGH for ya?

Lol, that's funny.

As for the bet, I will start painting the shafts as soon as you post the money.

And you'll be bringing a "well known player"? For what? To do your testing for you? You mean you want to call a cue "trashy" and YOU can't even determine for yourself whether a cue feels like wood or not? I mean I don't care because I know I got the nuts on the bet. But if you want to embarrass yourself by putting a known player in the box whose name will be plastered all over this forum in conjunction with your failure then be my guest.

Why is so hard for people to remember what they said when they could go back and look it up?

This is what you said big boy;

"There is no pro or serious amateur that would use a CueTec unless they were sponsored. Show me one pro that uses a Cuetec because it's a great cue, and I will eat my words."

SuperStar responded with to examples of two great players who use Cuetec without any endorsement from Cuetec. Can we look in their minds and see if they thought Cuetec was a great cue? No, but we can infer it since they were willing to go up against other great players with Cuetecs in their hands.

Other people responded as well as to their experieces. One guy ran a hundred balls with his Cuetec. That sounds like a "serious amateur" to me.

Would you like some salad dressing with those words you said you would eat?

By the way, I am still waiting on your definition of quality.

You are right on cue, Nick B. PUN DEFINITELY INTENDED! :D

Just one correction to your post, though! It is 16 pages, 230 posts, approximately 6,200 views in less than a 24-hour-period. This may be a record.

Earl Strickland's fame, whether you like it or not, attracts a crowd. Cuetec has benefited from this attraction, to include the crowd, in the way of customers purchasing their product.

In the coming months, Cuetec's loss will ultimately be Earl's gain.

I may stand in the minority on this thread, but I am proud of Earl Strickland's accomplishments in pool. He is an American, one of the few champions who still exists here in the States. I am looking forward to seeing Earl Strickland compete with an American-made cue in his hands.

It is hard for me to regain a sense of enthusiasm for pool, and this thread is representative of why. It actually makes me literally sick to my stomach.

Ah the irony.
