Curious on signed Hoppe cue!?!?

I bought this cue at a flea market. I am not sure if the cue was manufactured as a 2 piece or if it was converted some where along the way. It is also signed C. E. Willard. Anyone familiar with the name? Any information would be awesome!? I can also take more pictures.

Most likely a Brunswick titlist that was personalized by Rambow (or someone else at Brunswick). This was an option from Brunswick. I'm far from an expert but, that's what I see. I could be wrong and for the OP's sake I hope I am and it is a Rambow. I just don't see it from these photos. Great cue though:thumbup:
 
Wow ... You said Rambow so I did a little research and I would say it for sure is ... Any clue on a value? ... I was told Willard was from Chicago and used to make rails for pool tables!?

I was combing flea markets for a while. The best I did was a Sampaio.

You have a real find there....

In my opinion you got one of the best deals I have seen lately. The cue looks like it certainly could have been made by Herman Rambow. If you get it authenticated and is found to be a Rambow cue depending upon what you paid for it you have a Diamond in the Ruff because the cue in the condition it currently is in is worth more than $1000 dollars. How much more, I can't say in this market but don't sell it until you know for certain.

I just looked at another cue that had the players name written by Rambow on the shaft and the cues forearm, and the scrolling and lettering appear to be the same.

Provide a good picture of the bottom of the cue and does the appear to have a hole drilled in the cues joint that was filled with a metal dowel if so also include a photo of that also.

Hi,

My good friend has one he got out of Ray Schuler's shop after he died. He bought a whole barrel of them for 1500.00 at the auction. Most are worth 300.00 or so.

One has H Rambow's fancy scrip on it with a player's name on it from 1919.

It was appraised at 5,700.00 by an expert who will remain nameless in the forum.

Thanks everyone ... I Paid next to nothing for it ... The lady was trying to sell me a 5 foot table that came with it!!!. I did get the other 5 Wille hoppe cue. the pictures make the condition look worse than it is.
 
Appears to be a Rambow given the Titlist blank to work with, the thin wall brass joint, and the script on it. Also the brass inserts inside the shafts are consitent with Rambow work. It would help to have a couple more pictures, one of the joint pin, not so close to get a look at the length of it, and also the wrap.

And by the way, it may be made from an ebony Titlist, but a bit had to tell. Sometimes rosewood has a way of looking like ebony.

Not sure whether CE was related to Jim Willard,the Tool and Die maker who developed the Tip Shaper and Tip Tapper. Might be interesting to find out? Could be an interesting pool provenance. If so,value increases.

Oh,and my first thought was Rambow. Great Find and with that luck,I'd buy Lotto Tickets!lol.
 
I've been trying to find a way to contact someone from Willards. I found there Web site but all the numbers and emails are for Meullers. Anyone have any way to contact a relation to Jim Willard?

The cue and the sig. are almost identical to my Dad's old Rambow.......only not as fancy as Dad's

HELLUVA FIND..........

I've been PM'ed several offers but I have no clue how much its worth.

Do people refinish cues like this? Would it be worth me doing?

I borrowed my blue book out about a year ago and have yet to get it back!?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You really do need to consult with an expert, but I will say that I wouldn't touch anything on that cue. Leave it alone and let any potential buyer decide if it needs any work. At most a very light cleaning for selling purposes (as in wipe it down dry with a soft lint free cloth), but I sure wouldn't disturb any patina.
