Wondering if anyone knows why this event currently underway in VA is in the name of Hannah Choi. While watching one of the streamed matches I did hear them say that Fedor & Kristina had organized the event but didn't indicate any connection to the name or what it was about. I did a google search and found the following news account of this young lady's awful murder just a couple months ago but, again, no connection to pool that I could see.

So maybe just a community connection or did Hannah play pool or is it something else?

Tragic, for sure.

best,

Here are some links to the event to save everyone else that wants to watch it the hassle of having to search around trying to find it.

Also, in the facebook post below from Sept. 2021 Fedor Ghorst (one of the memorial tournament organizers) is giving a thanks to a Hannah Choi as a "mental coach".

She was Tkach's best friend and roommate according to one of the posts on Facebook.

Choi was an active player and team member at Street Light Billiard Academy here in Alexandria. Fedor had/has a teaching relationship with SLB, which is truly a top shelf pool room.

My understanding is that Hannah was very good friends with Kristina Tkach. I'm sure someone will chime in and elaborate.

I learned that Hannah Choi was very popular and beloved in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. Her life was taken away by a monstrous act, and those who knew and loved her are devastated. This memorial was put together to celebrate and commemorate her and her memory. I never had the pleasure of meeting her but many of my pool-playing friends adored her.

Same here, not sure I have ever been in the same room with her and there is no denying she was a valued member of our little piece of the world.

A nice tip of the hat from the folks who put the event together. 10k added, I do believe.

Thanks to all for the enlightenment. Again, what a senseless tragedy.

Here's hoping this event continues on long into the future.

Congrats to Fedor & Kristina on their fine play (1st and 3rd) and class in putting this on.

best,
brian kc
