I would like to buy a cue with no wrap, 4-6 points, 5/16*18, a butt on the thin side at the very back - like predator.

price, maybe $350-700.

Any tips to where to start looking?

Any big company that would alter the joint?

I know I?ll have to ask around, but anyone knows about a not so expensive custom-guy that makes 2-3 of these specs as is?

There are many cuemakers who can meet your specs, but you'll have a tougher time finding something already out there with that pin...

Why are you stuck on getting 5/16x18?

I was kinda wondering the same thing....
I can't think of any well known custom cue makers off hand that use a 5/16-18 pin..... (without it being by request)

He could always find a nice older Meucci, have it refinished and buy a predator shaft for it....

Go to your local shop and look around to get some ideas. That's the best place to start.

Schon cues have a slim butt, but their pin size is 5/16x14 (I think). I'm against "custom" cues, though...that's just me. I love Schons.

Well, since you asked - Tad and Gina.

FWIW the only reason cuemakers use 14 instead of 18
is because Rambow used it - prolly so you couldn't
get a tap at your local hardware store.

PM your location, Maybe I can help you out. I know of a few custom cue makers that have standardize using the 5/16"x18 pin.

Ya, you can name a few... Maybe I should have said that there are not alot of them that use it anymore...
I have one of Alex Bricks first cues which has a 5/16-18
And I had an Keith Josey from the mid 90's that had a 5/16-18 pin
they both play very well
Neither of them use that pin anymore

Thanks for the helping hand, I am the proud owner of a zillion shafts with 5/16*18, and am in love with a handful.

Been looking at some Pechauer-cues. Nice looking. Gonna make a few calls and e-mailing eg Varney etc.

FWIW - the 14 tpi pin these days is only snob appeal.
There is no diference in playability<both hold the shaft to the butt
with equal snuggness>

Of course, inlaying 2 sq ins of ivory doesn't do anything to a cue
either, that is, except for the doubling the price part.

You should just get one of these Viking G-69. They are 5/16-18.

Schmelke Cues can make one for you, at a very reasonable price.

I've purchased two of their cocobolo full-splice sneaky petes. Love 'em. First one a buddy bought from me. The second I got with a birdseye forearm, 5/16 X 18 wood to wood joint, and a 12 mm shaft. Plays like a dream, especially with a milk dud tip.

Just ordered another from them. This one will be cocobolo with regular maple forearm, 5/16 X 18 wood to wood joint, and an 11 mm shaft, with a longer, 15" taper, and a 1/4 inch ferrule. Cost? $115 for the base cue, plus $20 for the 11 mm shaft, plus another $10 for the longer taper plus $9 for shipping. Total: $154...

Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

I shoot with a Meucci Original (5/16 x 18) with an Original Predator 314 and it hits like a rock. I have a Madden without a predator and it just sits in my case now.

I don't understand how this applies to my post

Look at the awesome custom cues with this size joint pin made by one of our own AZer's and the workmanship and prices are fantastic. Bill Shupert cues and he post on here as Bill The Cat, search his name and click on the link to see pictures of available cues. I have had mine for about three months and it looks and hits great, they are a real value.

Fixer, if you'd like PM me and I can get you Kevin's (Varney) contact info, unless you already have it. I figure he'll be off the boards until next week. I am not sure what arrangements they've had to make.

I am sure Kevin can make it anyway you'd like.
