Hey I always welcome anyone's practical 2 cents. And you're right, you can never have enough storage area. The only reason i didn't is the ceilings are 9', I'm 5'-5" in order for me to be able to access the top storage, they'd need to be built pretty low, and I didn't want it to interfear with viewing the flat screen I plan to put above the bar. Good idea though.

You know, I'm not a big beer drinker, actually I'm not a drinker period, but I plan on practicing to become one. Last time I had a drink was aobut two years ago. It wouldn't be hard to install a keg though. I can add a tap right above the fridge thru the counter top, and you're right a tap would look pretty cool.

Yeah, I remember that post, and I remember YOU! Jk. No worries, I understand not everyone could envision what was in my head. Even my wife that always supports and believes in me, i could sense a little skepticism in her after I painted the room, and she even helped me pick out the color. Actually, SHE picked out the color. I remember when I finished painting the last wall I was so fregin excited that I kept telling my wife “this is the PERFECT COLOR!!!!” I got the feeling she felt I was trying to convince myself it looked good. I mean the room looked terrible! And it did! But it was exactly the look I was shooting for.
So I understand, To prove my point I posted pic’s of “ then and now’

Yesterday evening my Wife and I cleared out the room of all the tools and materials. Then we began to sweep and vacuum. I kid you not, we swept up about 10 gallons of saw dust! I should have taken a picture of the dust storm we created. We could hardly see across the room. Well after several sweeps with 20 min intervals (we had to let the dust settle in between) we vacuumed the floors, walls and ceiling. I also removed the glass shelves from the Bar for now. I forgot to mention that on Sunday night I gave all of the oak a good sanding with 220.
It feels good to have the room cleared of everything.

I can't believe this thread has been going on for almost 9 months and it NEVER gets old seeing what you've done!

I've read the thread, but I can't remember if it was mentioned, what are your plans for the baseboard molding?

By the way, thanks for taking the shots of the room showing it cleared...it looks "big" as is...I'm excited to see it with the tables setup as well and see if it makes it look "smaller"!

I can't believe it's only been 9 MONTHS and all that he's done. A project of this magnitude takes time and can put strain on family life. dsoriano has done well balancing his time. I'm curious as to how he dose it, the guy must not sleep. Whats your secret?
 
What do you drink? I would like to the opportunity to buy you the first bottle for your bar. This was a phenomenal project that we were all able to enjoy.
 
Project update

Today I'll be dropping by Lowes to choose the Stain color. I have to decide between Red Oak and Red Chestnut. I'll be taking a few pieces of oak wood with me to stain then returning home to see which macthes well with the room color.
I was thinking of taking pictures and posting them here and letting my fellow AZ'ers decide, or at least getting ya'lls input.

Also I found the pics of the carpet I'll be putting down.

You know I've been pondering that for a while. My original plans were to add a 5" trim board at the bottom but I decided not to after I liked the way the 10" base looked. I will however be adding a strip of base shoe mold after I install the carpet to hide any gaps. Although I doubt there will be. I'll be cutting the carpet pretty snug, but I still need to add the trim for esthetics.
 
FWIW, I'm a big fan of natural colors in woods. (I'm a fellow woodworker and if I haven't told you, nice job!) With your carpet choice, the dark walls, and the lighting you've chosen, I think the oak with a clear finish would look great. I've also found oak plywood to be finicky in how it takes stain and I'm concerned that you'll get some blotchy results that will really be difficult to fix.

Just my 2 cents.

Keep up the good work! I'm so impressed that I showed my wife this thread (non-pool player but strong interior designer) and she was blown away by your design and choices.

Have u considered just sealing the wood as is without stain? I've only seen the pics on my phone so maybe I'd change my mind on a bigger picture. But I think it looks beautiful in natural color.

The carpet is a good carpet but don't use anything but the 26oz and tell the salesperson you want it with the unitary backing and not the latex. If you need any info just give me a call.

Hey thanks Guys, and 2 cents are always welcomed.
As for just sealing it, I prefer not too. The wood looks great in the pictures from a distance and in the dim lighting, but up close you can see the grain imperfections and all the inconsistencies. As for staining plywood, I know what you mean, but I've found that if I prep it by sanding with 100 grit then a final pass of 220 the Plywood really does very well with stain. I have a few pics of other projects I've done I'll post.

I just got home from HD and here are the stains I tried...from left to right
Cherry - Red Chestnut - Gunstock - Red Mahogany - Red Chestnut - Red Oak.

And here are pic's of the wood trim in actual light to show how badly it needs stain. Although the shop light is only temporary, the oak still needs a finish to help cover the finish nail holes and give it some color.

I'd go with any of the darker three. No reason to change the "old pool room" theme now.

Can't wait to see it, whatever color you chose:thumbup:
 
I would go with the Red Chestnut or the Gunstock stain. Not too dark or too light, you want to keep some contrast between the woodwork and the dark walls. Too dark of a stain and all of your hard work on the bar, cabinets, build outs and trim will start to just blend in to the wall and not be noticeable.
