Hey Guys,

Quick question for you. I'm considering cutting down the ferrule on a heubler sneaky pete i have down to about 1/4 inch (i prefer shorter ferrules and I'm also hoping to reduce the end mass (ie deflection) some.). How bad an idea is this? Thanks in advance!

Shortening the ferrule won't hurt it, but it also won't reduce it's end mass at all. You would have to drill it out to do that, and that's probably not the best idea unless you just want to experiment and don't really care about the cue. I guess you could cut it off and get a 314 if it all went terribly wrong.

I figured whatever ferrule material is denser than maple so cutting it down would reduce (at least slightly) the relative end mass... and I like short ferrules :) Thanks for the reply!

If you don'd mind the shaft being 1/4 shorter, the ferrule can be parted off, retenon and replace with big bore uncapped ferrule.
That'll lower the squirt some.

shortening the ferrule would reduce the end mass. ferrules weight 2x or more than wood.

The Huebler sneaky's I've seen used the old fiber material for the ferrule. This is an uncapped set up using a large 5/16 type tenon & the fiber material is fairly light. Making it shorter will not lighten the front end enough that it'd be noticeable. You could do as Mr. Hoppe said and drill/bore the first 4-5 inches of the shaft...of course the Pred police won't be happy.
