At the us open 10 ball one pocket and 8 ball
We first used these
There were so many balls that skid it was crazy
But we used the measle cue ball with them
I have used the cyclops balls for a few months at home
And I really like them very few skids
I like the cue ball a lot it does not pick up much chalk at all
Not like the measle ball
The measle cue picks up so much chalk that's prolly where the skids come from

Great update Chris... I played with them in Tunica for several hours and was pleased with them but I think we had a red circle on the table with them....

How do you think the cyclops cueball plays? Heavy or light or neutral... Yeah I know it's subjective but most feel the red circle plays light and the measles plays heavy.. as in red circle is easier to draw and measles is easier to follow..

Very interesting update, Chris, as you were quite critical of the balls after their debut.

Good on you to come here and give you're updated thoughts on them.

I bel it was the measle ball that caused all the skids
I didn't think that at the time

Closer to the red circle
The thing I like of doesn't pick up much chalk
The measle is bad about picking up chalk

Cyclop Balls

Is it worth getting a set of Cyclop Balls? If so which set should we buy (standard or off color)?

I'm glad you started this thread, Chris.

I had a feeling Cyclop was being judged prematurely.

A brand new ball slips ( any brand )
Then as they start breaking in, you get inconsistencies.
Sometimes you're hitting a broken-in spot, sometimes you're hitting an
unused part.

The old English billiard players valued precise carom angles....
...they would not play an important match with new balls...
....they demanded a set with at least 3 weeks play.

And if you clean those balls with a recommended ball wax...you start the
'new ball' problem all over again.
I use a ball cleaner with nothing added.

The bar tables in Vega$ certainly didn't have a measle ball and their were skids there as well.

Maybe it was the humidity or lack of it out in Vega$ that had something to do with it. Or something that was used to clean the cloth on the tables. Or clean the balls themselves. Or because the tables are kept in storage and there is an issue with that. Who knows.

I believe the reason is that the Cyclop balls are harder and have a finer polish to them. (I also believe the reason you get more skids some times is because of the greater prevalence of the "high adhesion" chalk in use at some events.)

I am told by Diamond that Cyclop balls and CB will be in use at the DCC.

Do these have the fugly colours? or have they released a set with normal looking colours?

cyclops cue ball

Bartram,

I got the chance to play a few nights with this set of balls and I thought the cyclops cue ball definitley picked up less chalk!

very few skids, rolled great and consistant.

I think the cyclops balls are the reason I didn't win a rack in the US Open 10ball... The cyclops balls didn't fit in the pockets right.

I thought Diamond was going to be the US Distributor on these?? Not heard of WS Billiard Supply before...
