Dale Perry cue priced at a starting bid of $1299 (on ebay).

I was looking at cues tonight, and was very surprised to see a DP cue up for auction with a starting bid of $1299.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dale-Perry-...097?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item259c65b8d1

I am just curious if there is anything special about the cue (that makes it much different then the average DP cue that sells new for under $200)?

I wonder if the seller got ripped off by a dealer that may have conned the seller into buying that DP cue for who knows how much (and maybe many times its actual value), or if the seller is thinking that he or she can find a buyer that thinks the cue is actually worth $1300?

Seeing the auction just kind of shocked me, because I have never seen a DP cue that was priced for even half of the starting bid of that auction.

I am curious if there are actually people out there that put this high of a value on their DP cues?

I imagine that there are DP cues that originally cost $1300 or more new, but I imagine that they did not have a radial pin on them (with the Dale Perry 1 of 1 signature that looks very much like every other DP cue that I have ever seen on ebay over the years).

Sorry about creating this silly thread, but seeing that insanely high price on a DP cue just really shocked me.

I can understand if it was one of his nice older customs (from before his ebay selling years), but it looks like a DP cue that was made to be auctioned off on ebay.

Sorry if I am wrong about that.

1 of 1. Dale may change the inlay material and sometimes, that is all the difference.

Doesn't matter if it is pre EBay Perry Cues or not. Dale kind blew that one out of the water for both his Dealers and people that did have one or more of his cues and had paid a bigger price for one.

Unless Dale has changed his wording on his EBay auctions, it does, or used to anyway, state that each cue is worth, if I remember, $1800.00.

The seller may have got one for a decent price and figured that they scored heavy.
Maybe just reaching out and trying to make a tidy profit by mistake or actually trying to do a PT Barnum on someone out there.

I have a couple of his cues. They look great and play just fine for the price that I got them for many years ago.

For that used PH cue. I wouldn't pay anywhere close to $350 for it.

Meh, there are a million attempts at tricking people worse than this on Ebay and Azbilliards alike. The same cues cropping up every month at the same price, patiently waiting for "the right buyer" ie a rube that just fell off the turnip truck. The only thing missing is the customary trashing of the op for exposing ludicrus pricing. Blahblah capitalist society, bla. bla freedom of the seller to name his price, blah blah...It is insane to pay that amount for a DP cue today. Simple as that. Equally simple with other overpriced cues. Overpriced crap is overpriced crap, and exposing it is good. How about the cues from a certain maker that were bought off Ebay by a flipper and then had 200 dollars added to the price and instantly relisted... They've been on there for quite a while now.

Nice find. The 2 cues really do look identical in every way. I tried to see if the woods in both forearms looked to be the same, and I think they do. I can't see any differences in the 2 cues. I imagine there is some extremely small variation that I can't see though.

The rings are different, one of the cues has white inbetween the silver rings and the other doesn't.

He didn't have to drag Colorado into this ugly mess.

As noted before I have a few DPs older and newer. The DPs I own look and feel like 1k$ cues. I would think it would be pretty easy to think you hit the jackpot and in my opinion you have unless your reselling .

Funny here, that cue is signed one of one, yet this cue looks identical http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dale-Perry-...rg=20131231084308&rk=3&rkt=24&sd=161537702097 and is 1/4 the price.

Not really, the rings are very different, and the more expensive one has the detail aligning with the points.
As for price , any cue is only worth what someone wants to pay for it.
There is significantly more work in the 56 inlay cue compared to the 18 inlay cue, without considering the woods used.

Oh heck...if people can sell a Dufferin sneaky pete with a little "S"

on the butt cap for $2,000, that makes this cue a bargain.

LMAO, but not Palisades (where all our wine is).

I was reffing my first and only big tourney in Edmonton ALB, some years ago. Next to the control booth, a guy had his lathe set up and was selling Dale Perry cues.

He had them in very nice display cases and they were exceptional examples fer sure.

They were also way over priced. I let him give me the spiel on his Dale cues.

I just went along and never did tell him that I had a couple that I paid well under $200 for, nor that I knew that one could get them, at the time, on EBay for 500% less than what he was asking.

He said he was a dealer for Dale.

At the time, I suspected that he did what anyone else would do. Get them for a steal on EBay and try reselling them.

I am curious if people (dealers) have been successful at making a good profit off of buying DP cues on ebay, and then reselling them locally or at tournaments. I asked the seller why the DP cue was so highly priced, and different then other DP cues that I have seen sell for under $200 new, and this was his reply.

"Thanks for Your question.
I would be curious too, if I didn't know what the cue was.
I thought I made the description very clear, maybe I didn't.
This is an older 1 of a kind cue.
The number is 1 of 1.
It is beautiful.
It is under priced as per the Blue Book of Pool Cues.
Also EBay doesn't set the Market price for Billiards Products,
the Billiards industry does.
Which I have been in for over 40 years.
Hope I answered Your question, fully."

It seems that the seller actually thinks that it is an $1800 cue. Either that, or he is just trying to bs me. It is clear to me that the DP cue is not an older pre ebay custom, because of the radial pin joint. I think that most of his older pre ebay customs had the uni lock joint on them. I might be wrong.

The only thing special about it is the buyer dumb enough to buy it. I bet you 10 to 1 that the seller is an AZB member.😜
