Danny D in Chicago

I want to point out that Danny does also instruction in all games.. He is the guy to go to when it comes to stroke and using english and how balls react. He recently instructed Jeannette Lee in her one pocket game. At 70 he is still on the road which he loves and needs support as he supports his family by doing this. He also has a bunch of great stories about his bouts with the greatest. A great man.

Danny is not 70, he is 72 and can still shoot the lights out of many of us.

Best Regards,
Hal

Danny Diliberto is in Chicago for about a week and is available for lessons.
That's a great opportunity for Chicago area players.

What I would like to know is:

1. Will Danny be looking to get into any action himself?

2. I'm wondering how the trap preparations by OPGhost, Fred, and others is proceeding?:D

I understand he is planning to play in the one pocket tournament at Chris's on Saturday. He has lessons scheduled Friday (Protyme, Orland), Sunday and Monday(Red Shoes). Then I think he is leaving town Monday night straight from Red Shoes.

I know 1 Pocket Ghost will play in the tournament. I might play just to have the scars to show my grandkids. Who's Fred?

Chicago players are pussycats.

I was at Chris's this morning before the tournament started, letting Danny D warm up on me while Danny and Freddy reminisced. It was pretty entertaining to listen to these old friends remember things like the first tournament Jean Balukas played against the top men (beating Freddy and a lot of the others, so the story goes).

Even being slapped around by Danny was entertaining. Here's a couple of reasons I didn't have a prayer against him - both times I thought I was safe until he casually made the banks and ran out.

CueTable Help

Danny must have run a dozen balls more than once in the hour we knocked 'em around, and I don't remember him missing more than a couple of banks in that time - and each one he made was punctuated with a loud "I read the book, Freddy!" He's also a wizard at reading the stack - he made more than one 180-degree reverse carom/kiss/combo shots out of the stack that I couldn't even see until he explained them.

Then he bought himself in the calcutta for $10. Go figure.

It looked like it was going to be a good tourney - contenders I saw there were Danny, Freddy, 1 Pocket Ghost, Ike, Chris Gentile, Paul Navarette, Mike Eck, Tommy Spencer (heard he was on the way), some others I'm forgetting. I had to go during the calcutta, but I hope I can get back there this evening for some of the late matches.

In many instances they convey emotions better than a bunch of words. I dig'm. :groucho: :thumbup2:  Jim.... :outtahere:

Danny lost in the first round to Chris Gentile.
Fred lost to Rob Parry and Fred got mad and left.
Danny was to play Freddy in the second round but got the forfeit.

He was abolut to play Charlie Green(?) when I left.
Navarette was playing Gentile When I left.

Zaksis lost to Jet on the winners side.

That's about all I know.

Jim: I met the guy who owns or runs the pool hall in Galesburg where Sailor went last year. He lost to Spencer in the first round, I think.

I didn't recognize you there. Oh well. I lost to Rob 3-1 after he played Freddy.

Chris beat Paul with some really nice stuff.

That's all I got. First real one pocket tourney. I was there for 6 hours, spent $50.

That would be Mark... nice guy who's been learning and working on his 1pkt game the past few months. If I wanted to get out there and play he's the guy I should be trying to get to play some straights with me. But my hours probably wouldn't work. I'd have to be able to get away on weekday afternoons to be able to stand being in there. Other times the music is loud etc.

I just got back. Danny lost to Jet in a short set after putting Arturo out (looked like the day, or maybe the week, has been a little long for Danny). 1 Pocket Ghost is in a looooong match with Spencer. Gentile is still waiting and Navarette's still in it.

Ike went two and out.

Danny spent a lot of Thursday putting together a pool table for a friend of his. He stapled his hand but then hit the same finger with a mallet. He was a little beat on Friday when he was giving lessons.

Anybody got how it ended??
