I watched the first shark and had no audio and could not comment about Efren sharking Rodney even though I saw an unnaturally nervous Efren fretting with his cue. This seemed odd. He seldom moves his cue or anything else while his opponent is shooting.
My heart sank when I saw the 3:45 shot and realized that winning this game meant so much to Effie. It hurt me to my soul to see my idol caught in the cross hairs of righteousness, recorded in eternity on film, digitally no less, committing an almost unforgivable shark on Rodney Morris in one of the most important matches of all time. If I had not witnessed the second shark I might have assumed that the first shark was just an accident. My heart aches now because I no longer believe the first shark was accidental.
I may never be the same. It has hurt me to my very core. I will be returning all of the autographs I have collected as well as the souvenirs I have treasured all these many years. I am beside myself and feel I have been betrayed. Never will I put a mere human being on such a high pedestal again.
We thought we had an angel in our midst gracing the field of green; alas he is but a human being, no longer an idol, nor god, not even a magician; simply a man like any other.
Pool will never be the same again.

I played Efren once, about 15 years ago. He got some bad information and gave me the 6-out and the breaks at Hardtimes in Cali. Even when he was stuck real bad he was a gentleman. It was obvious he didn't like losing, but he never tried sharking me.

I'm sorry Hail Mary, I could not give those sentimental treasures to another human being. I just couldn't do it with good conscience. Really! I would be afraid of the Karma to come after it and could not have that resting on my shoulders. It is part of what must be done to restore balance to the universe.
Perhaps even now, a small child has been born, somewhere distant and remote, maybe even as far away as China. A child, whose father is an indigent farmer unfamiliar with the ways of the world, will this day be asked to give his young child to the Dali Lama so that he might be raised to know the word of integrity. The Dali Lama will no doubt teach the child the word of integrity and instill in him a belief that justice reigns supreme as well as a penchant for playing pool at a very high level, maybe at a level even higher than the man we formerly knew as "idol". The "idol's" fall from grace will forever stain the good image of pool and we will be forced to endure three times seven years of servitude to the forces against pool. The child may be the reincarnate of the man we formerly knew as "idol" but this name will never be used again for any man. The new name for the child who we hope will take the place of our former hero and will restore balance to the universe is still unknown at this time but pool's faithful will be waiting and longing for the day when we can hold our heads high once more.

Regarding the second "shark": It's pretty obvious if you watch closely that Efren did NOT intentionally shark Rodney. Efren picked up the scoresheet while Rodney was walking around the table, and although Efren did place the scoresheet back on the table while Rodney was shooting towards him, it doesn't look to me like Efren purposefully timed it to coincide with Rodney's shot -- as a matter of fact, it looks like Efren didn't realize Rodney was shooting in his direction at all. When Efren picked up the scoresheet Rodney was studying the table in the opposite direction, and Efren did not look back up until after he'd finished looking at the scoresheet and had replaced it. I think the worst one can say about his behavior here is that he wasn't paying enough attention. At any rate, looks completely UNintentional to me.

efren really is a great guy, i have heard of him doing a bad thing or two, but dont know for a fact if those are true so i wont mention them. the one thing i have seen him do, and you technically really cant hold this against him..... he's such a one barrell artist. he could beat up on somebody for 1000, a month later play the same guy the same game and lose one set, maybe two, and hes done. truth be told we really couldnt ask for a better personality to be on top. in our sport (unlike baseball, golf, haha) nice guys dont finish last, at least for now.

Either way it is not very nice especially when you consider that the banging of Bata's cue disturbed Rodney only a minute prior to the secondary shark. Coincidence? Perhaps. And with Efren's track record you might have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I observed and analyzed Efren's whole demeanor in that game. it seems to me during that sequence, the first supposed sharking incident, at 2:32 Efren switched his original playing cue (the one on his left with a new cue (on his right) by putting his old one beside his chair (right side). seems like the new cue that he picked wasn't yet properly screwed and as he put down the new cue on his left, he accidentally bumped the previous cue on his right side of his chair simultaneously at 3:04. as for the missed shot of Rodney, clearly Rodney miscalculated the necessary english for that shot as reviewed at 4:08 and 4:13 respectively. the angle of that shot was alright but the throw went offline. I believed he worried too much for the next sequence of shots and CB position on either striped balls rather than making the OB first.
Another thing that could have bothered Rodney is the camera being lowered down in his line of sight. Watching the video you don't really think about the cameramen.
I attended this tournament for the last three days and IIRC they had two guys with big camera's on their shoulders moving around. They also had a camera on long boom that could reach right down to the table. Sometimes the camera's would get down within inches of the pockets or the players while they were shooting. During one match Mika was bending over to shoot and the boom camera came so low it almost hit him in the head.
I was amazed at how well they played on the TV table with the distraction of the camera's moving around while they were shooting.

After a tournament match, where I defeated Efren 7-2, I was on my way out the door to grab some grub before my next match. He stopped me and slapped me in the face and told me how I was a low life and would never have the talent he has.... or wait, was that my ex wife when I was on my way to Hooters. I get all confused sometimes mixing work and this AZ Billiards stuff.
