2x US Open Champ and former World 10 champ Appleton will play this year. Darren has won Derby City 14.1 before and will definitely be a threat to win The World Tournament

Agreed that Darren's participation is a big deal.

Straight pool is not exactly his game, but he has shown that he can put some big runs together. His explosiveness will make him an undesirable draw in the single elimination stages of the event.

Nice to see Darren broadening his horizons over the glorious green felt. He came to the US with a pedigree in eight ball alone, and made sme noise in the IPT eight ball events. He's won the world ten ball championship and is the winner of the last two US Open nine ball championships and is the defending champion at the Challenge of Champions. Earlier this month, he showed some serious game in coming 2nd at the US Open One Pocket event and now he'll try his hand at the World 14.1 event.

He's a fine player with a fine, and still growing, pedigree. Wishing him luck!

Darren also finished 2nd to Archer at the recent challenge at the US Open 10 Ball Championship, beating John Schmidt along the way. He also beat Orcollo who had the high run in qualifying 238. Appleton qualified with a 159.

Straight shooter, not sure what his safety play is like.

He learned something about safety play in his matches at Derby with Niels and with Ralf. I think Niels took an intentional third foul in the first match and I think that Darren took an intentional in the second match.

Even though he lost to Ralf, he said that he learned a lot in that game.

These numbers are not runs. They are the total for 4 attempts.

Darren has been playing in these challenges at Derby, Philly and Vegas for a few years now, and has been doing well, but it will be nice to see him in this round robin competition where everyone is doing nothing but playing straight pool day after day. It's quite a treat to be able to glance from table to table and see the likes of Hohmann, Schmidt, Ortmann, Immonen, Feijen, Hopkins, Sigel, Barouty, Lipsky, Daya and countless others competing at 14.1.

Maybe Daz will pick up a few more tricks to go with his straight shooting.

This is well said. By participating in his first top flight 14.1 event, Darren will have a chance to observe and learn from the game's established stars, and I'm sure he'll make the opportunity count.
