Darren Forfeits Beloit

For those that say "if you don't show up for work you get fired, this is no different"...that's not quite true.

I have overslept and missed CRITICAL meetings before. I didn't get fired. Why? Because I have a track record of over 6 years with my company, in which I've done an OUTSTANDING job. If I overslept I would get reprimanded one time, and then it would be BEHIND ME. Yes, there might be some consequences if the timing was terrible and it made a huge impact, but my track record would preserve my career from a human mistake.

Daz too has a long track record of exemplary behavior and results. Like a 9-5 job, let's not fire him, let's give him a verbal warning and know it will probably never happen again.

Daz, it's a pleasure to have you on our boards. You are the only world champ I know that is participating, and it is a treat. I've devoted a big part of my life to the game and have had some moments in the sun. You sir are the real thing. Yes, you are very human, that's all the more reason your accomplishments are so impressive. Please keep posting on AZ!

 I agree here. It happened, it sucks, time to move on. It's obviously an out of character mistake by a proven professional. Things happen, mistakes get made, I doubt one of us here has never screwed up in some way so cut the guy some damn slack.

Enjoyed watchng you play Shane Saturday night Daz!

Let's start a "Who's the Best?" thread, or maybe debate whose aiming technique is right and why all others are wrong.

Wait! I know. Let's complain about the Wanted/For Sale forum.

Nothing more to see here. Time to move on.

I have been present after one of the White Diamond Billiards tournaments was over when several players were sitting around talking about forfeiting if they get a money game, dumping, etc. One actually said he wouldn't even buy himself in a Calcutta if he had the chance, because for him it is solely about the money, and if a money game popped up, depending on what he felt his odds were of winning the tournament, he would almost certainly forfeit, and actually did that once. After hearing this, I would never put my money in a calcutta. I would rather be a railbird and bet on individual games or short sets.

I don't think anyone has the right to tell Daz or anyone else how best to make his living, or to tell him what profession he should be in. Likewise, I don't like hearing anyone talk about how hard their livelihood is when they chose it for themselves. Sometimes you have to suck it up and do things you hate to get buy. That is life. I have heard similar arguments from teachers about their pay relative to general industry. It comes with the territory. Take it or find another livelihood. We can all argue about what careers "SHOULD" pay, but who cares about that, it is what they DO pay that is the only relevant thing in the argument.

As for sleeping late, I have done it as well and didn't lose my job, nor was my job threatened. I just try not to do it again, and Daz stated basically the same thing.

I don't think he owes anybody anything. Pool in the case of this tournament is an individual sport. What people gamble on the side is of no consequence to the player.

I have no problem because I usually try and do the right thing and take money out of my pocket, when it's the right thing to do. An apology is nice and all but...

This thread has massive photoshop potential.... Not sure I have the energy to contribute and may have to call in Disco to pinch hit.

Should you not be off trying to shark neurotic case makers rather than attempting to troll world champions?

So, I guess your position is, anyone in the position of being the best at what they do is above reproach? Sorry, NO ONE is that perfect. Including Darren. Perhaps some have gone overboard in their criticism but all is deserved.

Incidentally, I voted for the neurotic case maker by purchasing a custom designed case. Doesn't look like a shark though (sorry Brian).

I think you should give John Barton his money back. You proved your point... you win. The right thing would be to give him his money back and settle it with a hand shake.

If you want to say ridiculous things, you got action. You'll never beat me in saying ridiculous things.

No doubt in my mind

When a professional pool player has pool earnings of $150,000, that's not what his personal income is. If he spent $75,000 in related expenses, then his income that would be comparable to the typical employed person whose gross pay is $75,000.

I think Darren is one of the very few who actually do make a comfortable living. He's an excellent player at all games, and is a class act as well. I don't know him well, but well enough to know that feels worse about this than most can imagine. I'm certain that his expectations of himself are higher than what others would expect of him. To me, that's a sign of character.

Royce

Here we go again with this failed logic. Sorry Royce but I can only be blunt and think comments like this that I have heard before are just stupid.

I spend $400 a month on gas. $100 a month on dry cleaning.

Wear and tear on my car.

Then each year I buy new clothes, new shoes.

Not to mention I spent $40,000 on college.

Oh and then I pay taxes on my income ---- did Sky have taxes taken out or a W9 issued on the 16K he just won?

Should I deduct all of this off my income if someone asks how much I make?
