I dont know many action stories about Dave but I did get to meet and play him in a tournament in Cape Girardeau MO several months ago. He is a nice guy and still plays great. He was telling us a few stories but I cant really remember them.

I just saw Dave Matlock this past weekend in Tulsa playing in Gabe Owen's T-Town classic one pocket event. He was put out of the tourney by Jose Parica.

Shooters in Olathe

You can catch Dave at Shooter's in Olathe, since he does reside there.
He will most likely be playing in the Midwest 9 ball tourney there the weekend of 2/19.

Bowman just won the River City Open in Peoria this weekend and may make it to Shooter's for the MW9 ball tournament.

I saw Dave in Cape as well, I do not recall if he hit the calcutta money or not but he only went for 2 hundred. He goes for 500 at Olathe.

And YES, he still has his stroke and can lay a 6 pack on you anytime.
Except most tournaments are NOT winner break. Except at Rack Daddies in Quincy Illinois the weekend after Olathe's tournament 2/27.
FYI

I saw Dave several years ago at the Palace, in Tulsa. He tried a few shots with a cue I had just finished and said it had a good hit. I think he was just being nice.
I heard he had recently gotten married.

Dave Matlock

I was in Olathe a year or 2 ago and saw Dave Matlock make an un believable shot. He set the cue ball frozen on the rail on the second diamond which is the border of the kitchen and placed the object ball on the 2nd diamond on the opposite side of the table or diagonally and froze it. He then proceeded to bank this ball cross side in the pocket. John Gabriel was watching along with me and he just walked off shaking his head. This was on the valley bar table.

Biggest match I saw him in was when Shannon Daulton beat him for 10k on the 9ft years ago.

Yep saw dave this weekend.

Yes Dave is up in Olatha, he looked good this weekend and played excellent, He came up short on a bank that he was bringing the CB around 3 rails on by about 6-12"...had he gotten there he and Parica would have been tied up 3-3.

I know Dave's best Pack on the box was 28 racks in a row. As a side note the next best I know is 24 by "Fat" Randy Wallace, the kicker is Randy did 24, then missed and the next time he got to shoot he ran another 24 racks!

I don't know too many stories but one comes to mind. Place and time are unknown.

Dave was out at a bar and had gotten tilted. Some kid comes up and ask's him if he wants to play some $5 9ball on the BB. Dave tells the kid "don't you know who I am? I'm the best dam bar box player in the WORLD!" The Kid tells him he doesn't really care it's just some $5 9ball anyways.

So they play 4 games and Dave's hammered and he can't make a ball lol, he pays the kid the $20 and the kid says "Best bar box player in the world my A$S!"

Heeeelarious!

Thanks

The only player i've heard of that had a higher run on a barbox was Paul Turner..and it was something like 34...Havn't seen David in umpteen years...I friend of mine from Houma..Pat Seamons & her husband Angus use to stake David a good bit when he was in his prime...all of us that bet on him at the time made money on him...Remember when they 1st brought him to Houma..they let him play a local shortstop for like 10$ or $20 a game just a friendly bet...but Angus asked the shortstop named Hward Danos..How u hittin them Howard..Howard said..I'm hitting them purdy sporty..Angus said..I'm gonna let my guy give u all the breaks in 6 ball & if u make a ball u win..Howard had one of the better 6ball breaks in town & jumped all over it...David had a way of racking 6all where all the balls are touching but when u broke the rack had very little action....Howard broke 10 racks in a row without pocketing a ball & Dave run every one..most ugly layouts...even having to kick the 1 in on one game...REALLY REALLY impressive.
