Congratulations Darren Appleton on running 200 & Out during the 73rd Worlds 14.1 Tournament !!!

I have to say sitting ringside during this monumental achievement was amazing, certainly one for the record books for a very long time !!!

Great run Pal !!

Agreed! I enjoyed every minute of it, no offense to Bustamante of course, just happy to see someone shoot great and break records.

I believe the announcers said all matches would be posted to YouTube after some number of weeks/months...don't recall specifics.

There is some talks of DVDs being made of the event by Ira Lee, I am not sure if that's still the plan. I would think if it is that those matches would not make it over to YouTube.

Time will only tell in the weeks to come !!

I so wish I could've been there in person to watch this epic accomplishment. Absolutely amazing DAZ, very inspiring performance in competition. I only wish for you that you could've done it in the finals too...you've been playing so strong it seemed possible!

Was a great performance by Darren will be around for a long time ..He certainly as put the goal out there now ..Amazing Darren and congrats another history maker for you ...

Comparable moment?

Not meaning to hijack this but is there a comparable single feat in the pool world greater than Darren’s 200 & out? This is pool's version of a pitching a perfect game.

I’ve only come to learn/love 14.1 in the past few months but I’ve thought of the challenge format, object and cue in hand and setting up a first shot, all offense, no opponent is fun to watch but I think lacking the consequence from a miss as you get when mano a mano, is a great “record” but not the same as Darren’s feat. 14 consecutive racks and every shot with the threat of Django on his heals.

Is there anything comparable to this? 25 years from now I will be telling my grandchildren that I watch this happen.

Is the next TAR Darren vs ________ in a 14.1 race to 1000?

Good question. I'm going to say no there isn't. I think Earl's 11 racks in a row without a miss in 9 ball is close, but I think the 200 and out in 14.1 tops it (removing the prize money pressure from the equation). The amount of focus that is required and maintaining that over the course of the length of a 200 ball run in competition is incredible and I don't think anything can match that.

These are not precisely comparable, but worth a note:

1. At the 2009 World event, Ortmann ran over 350 balls without a miss, stretched over 4 different matches. But he also made either one or two opening safeties in those games.

2. In a thread four years ago discussing Ortmann's achievement, Roy Steffensen reported that Hohmann ran over 375 balls without a miss, spaced over 5 different matches, at the 2005 European Championships.

3. In that same thread, sjm reported that Mike Eufemia ran 150 and out in five consecutive exhibition matches about 50 years ago, for a total of 750 balls in a row without a miss.

I feel a high run in a match has much more pressure associated with it. Willie Mosconi's 526 consecutive ball run was done in an exhibition match under different table conditions but still the highest single game run. I would imagine if it was in a world championship they might not have let him keep running balls once the game was over.

Bustamante conceded at 199. Darren hesitated and the crowd started yelling, shoot it in, shoot it in, to make sure he actually ran the 200. After he potted #200, a few people yelled keep shooting and he did for a few more balls, but he was just slamming the balls in, not playing shape, At 205, Busty walked by the front and scattered the remaining balls. Most of the people did not want him to continue running. 200 ball run in a 200 point match was as perfect as we needed it to be.

I agree. In a tournament the climax of running 200-out turns easily into an anti-climax if you continue your run and miss at 212 after losing focus entirely. Now if Darren would've ran 500-out in a 500-point match, I'd be inclined to think otherwise :)

150 at the practice table?

I saw a few of Darrel's matches live, but I streamed the semi final match back home.
One of the commentators said he had run about 150 balls at the practice table before starting the match. Is this fact?

We like facts!

I don't know about that. Steve Kurtz may chime in.

I do know that he had the high run of the tournament at 149 up until then.

Yes, I heard the same. Roughly 150 unfinished when he was called to the stream table.

Still, so what? It was a practice run.
