DAZN Raises Prices Again

Just canceled my sub...DAZN has 2 major cash cows, Anthony Joshua and Cannelo Alvarez. Anthony Joshua went from being one of the biggest draws in the world, to losing a few fights and back to mid card. I imagine DAZN lost a big chunk with him.

Over 200 a year is too much for me personally when several of the MR events are at odd hours/during the workday. You can usually find the replays online

As I was reading this I was wondering if they took a hit on their boxing stuff, seems like they may have.

Yep. They invested a ton in Anthony Joshua. Why not? He was undefeated British Heavyweight champ who had just beaten Klitchko.

Good looking guy, great physique, well spoken...and the champ.

What Eddie Hearn didn't take into consideration didn't take into account, Joshua had not fought outside the friendly confines of the UK.

So, bring him over, Madison Square Garden, put him in against a chubby Mexican that Nobody had ever heard of for his big intro to the US audience...what could go wrong?

Lol, unknown chubby little Mexican knocks out the British champ...he has since lost 2 or 3 more. Sorry, I love combat sports almost as much as pool...I geek out from time to time!

Forgive my ignorance, why would streamers be paying for sports? I thought the sports networks pay the streamers? Or is that only for pool's relationship with ESPN over the decades? And the more popular sports actually its the opposite?

I have three sports to watch through DAZN, being boxing, pool, and some mma, but even still, this price hike is ridiculous.

I use to watch every UFC event when they were 59.95, up from 49.95. Now i watch maybe 2 a year @79.95. Also pissed Dana lied and said the UFC had 'no control' over UFC's pricing. Yeah right like he gave ESPN the power to destroy his business-real likely!

I just cancelled annual DAZN effective 11/23/23-will go on the monthly as needed-Half the WPC was on Youtube free this year anyway.
UFc lost price control when they signed with ESPN. They don’t care about the price anymore, they’re getting paid a minimum equivalent to 400k buys with every ppv, whether it sells that many or not. Then make extra when it exceeds 400k. They make so much simply being on ESPN and providing weekly content, unless ESPN tries to renegotiate for less many at the end of the contract (and ESPN should, they’re over paying), UFC will never leave them.

Sounds like the quintessential "eggs in one basket" kind of deal (If that's the case then I'd be worried about their future); however, since I don't know about their history and given I'm an accountant by trade, I would be interested to see their financials (any loans coming due, are they planning future infrastructure/IT upgrades, etc.), what's the CEO like, are there any recent management changes, deals with other sports figures, etc.

Also, it could be an opportunistic situation and I will preface the next section with this:

The following statement has ZERO to do with politics and if someone chooses to go down that road I will report your post - end of story - I WILL NOT get into politics in this thread.

When trump ran for President he doubled his membership fees at Mar-a-Lago because he knew people would want to join - that was an opportunistic change. You can agree with it or not but it is what it is.

Which makes me wonder if their association with MR, and the fact they have "one foot in the door" as a major pool promoter in the US, mean anything?

Look for a Fire Stick to attach to your TV. I will say no more on here. Got one now on my tv in the Philippines, gets all channels worldwide!

Interested to know more, I have one sitting around. Funny side story, I bought it for the ex and her dog decided it was a chew toy and he ate the cover so now it's literally just a PC board and an HDMI cable. I literally found it in the backyard in the rain but it still works!

Given how DAZN buries pool content behind every thing else they host I imagine pool has nothing to do with the price increase. But perhaps the price increase is still a good business move. How many customers will cancel? 50 percent? If so that's a short term win.

Diamond, the parent company of Bally Sports, just missed an interest payment on the 8 billion they owe for all the rights for the many sports teams they produce. What's funny is they blame all of the streaming services for fragmenting their market thus losing viewers. I think they over paid Disney when they bought it.

I have a Matchroom subscription. I'm pretty happy with it, but I like watching snooker and if I like the odds I can bet most of the matches on a couple of online sportsbooks. It would be nice to have more live pool streamed. Never watched anything on DAZN.

I think they got tired of all you cheap asses, subscribing for a single event and then canceling.
That's not the problem. The real problem is all the PIRATING of the boxing matches, because like it or not, just like the pool viewing audience, they think their entertainment should be free, so, they watch the pirated streams instead of subscribing!! That bleeds money profusely!!

I just cancelled mine, but it’s good through all of Premier League Pool. I’ve paid $99 for several years, which was a great deal. Probably too good to last. But they’ll definitely get less money from me even if I buy every month that has a Matchroom event at $25/month.

when is premier league pool? i only seen "TBD"

I just cancelled mine. It was sad. All I ever watch on it is MR events. I thought the $99 per year was a great price, when compared to other live streaming services, and to watch how MR is steering professional pool. I never had a single glitch, and watching on my computer, phone, or iPad, was 10x simpler than other pool streams. At $225 per year, no thanks.

Raising prices is how the bleeding cost of theft is covered, BUT if they could stop all the PIRATING Of their live streaming, and capture all that lost income, they certainly wouldn't offer to lower their prices either!!!

I just got an email saying it will be $20/Month or $225/Year if paid upfront. Didn't they raise it from $99 to $150 within the last year?

The letter talks about all the boxing matches, but I only watch Matchroom Pool. Matchroom has been doing a good job; they don't make it easy to drop. I wish I didn't have to pay for a boxing channel to get a few days of pool per month.
I canceled yesterday. I wish they had a way for me to tell them why I canceled but I found nothing. I would have paid more if they kept the past matches available to watch later but with the policy of everything disappearing after a few days it's a bad deal.

I'm surprised not a peep from Matchroom about this increase. I expected some sort of attempt to convince pool fans that the price increase is worth it. Perhaps I'm right that the US market isn't something they even think about.
