DCC 2014 Trip Report

"A man's got to know his limitations."

Lou Figueroa

"If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them."
Bruce Lee

"Ever since I was a child I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one's potential."

Bruce Lee

"Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system."

Bruce Lee

Thanks, Creedo. I am also glad JS and I patched things up. One other thing I told him was that I had stayed out of the 14.1 Challenge room so he wouldn't think I was trying to shark him... some of us are like that, others, not so much and just make a nuisance of themselves.

Lou Figueroa

Wow, so um you didn't stay away from my match out of the same respect?

Please stop the spin. Honestly. Just stop. No really. Stop.

You told us months ago you had ALREADY made up with John and were good. So was that not true then?

You are a good writer and you run rings around the folks here who are always thirsty for any reports of any kind. You put a lot of fluff around little substance, intersperse it with some fibs and nearly unverifiable claims and people think you're a hero for giving them some prose about pool.

But you can stop with the high brow insults because they are still insults nonetheless. You are not better-than-thou no matter how much you might think you are. The level of dislike for you and your demeanor runs incredibly high so this forum is literally the only audience you have left. From what I gather just about everyone who spends time on the table with you in a pool room setting regrets the experience.

If you think that John would have been sharked by your mere presence then you were lying about patching things up well before DCC 2014 AND more importantly you think way too highly of yourself AND much more importantly you are too easily spooked to be considering gambling with me for 10 dimes.

It would be really nice if you would actually put your skills as a writer to POSITIVE use instead of a what-I-ate report wrapped around a 2 and out result peppered with some insults.

Other than that...did you think it was a pretty good trip report???

I liked it.

Yes, I think Lou is a good professional writer. He knows how to describe any situation to get exactly the effect he wants. And for those who were not present he paints a picture that is vivid and seemingly indisputable.

I think it would be worth it for someone to actually PAY Lou to report on events because he was a professional spin master and could probably write some reports that would inspire some investment into pool.

Good report Lou!!

Cool hangin with ya,Lou F. but You should know by now not to leave me a bank,or a dead one in the stack..lmao and you can't handle the booze:grin:.Other than that your a good dude, buddy!! :)John Brumback

I'm friends with Lou F. and John Barton

And I'm going to try my hardest to get out there and watch the match!! It will be awesome, you can count on that. Hey... maybe I can reff it??? I would if they don't have one and both players agree. John Brumback

PS: I think I told John that Lou didn't play real well in my match with him.Something like that. Nothing hateful, both guys know that.

Thanks for the support, dudlock.

One night at the DCC a group of us were drinking and the name of a particular guy came up and the comment was made, "From what I've seen he's like a booger you can't get off the end of your finger."

Lou Figueroa

I see. So this is your idea of "class"? I haven't posted any of the highly negative things people have said about you. I am 100% confident that if you are telling the truth then that person is not someone who appreciates you putting their comments on the street.

I asked around and told many people I was looking to bet more but no one wanted to place a wager on you with me in person. I was really hoping your mythical backers would have shown up so that I could have froze up some of the cash I made at the show. But alas the folks you claim exist didn't materialize.

405-693-0386 is my number if they want to call and put something on you.

Anyway, how did it feel to go two and out? I will be in St. Louis this coming week? What poolrooms are you still allowed to go in around there?

Being banned from a forum where people troll other people is one thing but being barred from several poolrooms in a small city is kind of telling in my opinion. Guess those room owners know how to handle problem customers.

I was out of stroke on the booze :-) Good hanging with you too, John.

And that'd be awesome to see you there. Would *love* to have you ref it, John.

Lou Figueroa

Ok, so what were the results at DCC for John and Lou. Who did they play, and what was final score? Also, any buybacks ???

Nice write up, Lou. It was nice seeing you at the Derby and I am happy to hear that JS apologized.

I thought we might see more of you up in the Straight Pool Room, but sounds like you found plenty to keep yourself busy.

See you next year.

Lou went two and out. I went three and out. I lost money to three players gambling. Lou didn't match up at all.

I told every one I could including those who know Lou well that I wanted to play him at the DCC.

I personally learned a lot. Not just about the game but about my opponent as well.
Everyone who knows what's about to happen and who talked with me was incredibly supportive. Many who know us both were even more supportive. I think I have a larger pit crew than a NASCAR team at this point.

Thanks, Dennis. Good to see you. I'm also glad JS ad I patched things up. I guess he just got bad info, so it was just a misunderstanding.

And yes, I meant t to get up there but I was repeatedly waylaid.

Lou Figueroa

What a ball.
....

So now it is time for me to play Evan and I win another lag.

I just want to say that Evan might just have *the* best touch of any player I have ever played or seen. He made everything from everywhere with a soft, gentle, precise stroke. After he won the first game, every time I came to the table I had to ponder long and hard on where on the table I could possibly put him and not give up a shot that he’d casually walk up to, shoot and make. I lose the second game but am able to triumph in the third. The fourth game I have a chance to win the game and go hill-hill, but slightly over cut a long distance cut shot on a ball peeking out from behind the stack. Game over, Lou loses 3-1.
....

If you haven’t been to the DCC you gotta go. There’s something for everyone... Might even be a little booze left :-)

Lou Figueroa

CORRECTED TRIP REPORT w/ EVAN:

You won the lag and COMPLETELY sold-out on the break. You left Evan a tough jacked-up cut on the 12 ball that he makes and had the CB go 2-rails and threads the needle between the muck and about 10 balls to scratch in the side (1 in 100 scratch).

Evan spots his ball and hands you the CB. With BIH behind the head string, you shoot at the 11 that sits only 3 diamonds away and spray the 11 into the rail and away from your pocket.

Evan shoots the 11 ball into the 9 ball and makes a great off-angle combo, leaving the CB tight behind the 5 ball. He jacks up again and gently pumps the 5 ball into the 6 ball that was sitting on the end rail (real nice shot) and makes the 6 smoothly into his pocket. He then strokes the 5 in easily, makes the 3, rolls perfectly for the 11 (that you dogged earlier) and then tries to bank the 10 straight back - leaving you stuck behind balls facing his pocket.

You then try to bank the 4 ball back and not only didn't you get the 4 ball in the quadrant of your pocket, you kind of just stop the CB right there (???) and leave Evan a cut on the 7 straight into his hole. He barely misses it, but leaves the 7 and 13 in his hole.

You clear it and he plays safe.

You hit a good shot behind 2 balls... he rolls out not leaving you a shot.

You just kind of glance against a ball sitting along the rail, trying to get the CB down table, but completely sell out... weird, weird shot. Not even in the solar system in regards to the right shot. Evan gets out.

It's fair to say the rest of the match kind of goes like ^^^^ this.

(more from Lou...)

That afternoon I sweat a variety of matches, including one in particular that I invite several knowledgeable 1pocket players to witness. We all end up pretty amused, somewhat incredulous, and I receive numerous offers for any financial support I may want or would be generous enough to take.

If those who are knowledgeable (who shall not be named) didn't know you and watched your match, they'd be more than amused.... they'd be wondering what you were doing in the tournament at all. If they saw your match too, they wouldn't be asking for a piece of your action without 1:1 collateralization.

For someone who "does pretty good against normal guys" -- you clearly didn't, alcohol excuse or not. I get the alcohol thing, most of us have been there. Kinda makes ya a little shaky on the execution part. That said, you're not even coming close to shooting the correct shots - so maybe the alcohol created some amnesia on how to play correctly.

I miss shit ALL the time and constantly dog my brains in, but I'm not barking $20k matches with a guy who arguably makes balls better than me. You're either filthy rich or stupid.

I find it fascinating that the guy you were laughing at (with your collection of knowledgeable one pocket players) made it further in the one pocket event than you. In regards to the match you laughed-at.... he won.

Even if you play 2x as good as you did at the DCC, I have a hunch you won't show up for the "big show."

Glad I'm not you, buddy. Nothing like cocking a $20k bet to someone you perceive as a non-playing nit only to find that he insta-calls and plays far better than you thought!

I am still waiting for those mythical investors to get a hold of me and arrange to invest in Lou's game. Perhaps I mistyped my phone number earlier, it's 405-693-0386 and my email is jb@jbideas.com, on Facebook I am John Barton - JB Cases and on skype jbideas. Since Lou is apparently not being generous enough to share his action I will be generous and offer to take all they want. They can then decide to reward Lou if he wins if they feel generous.

It's funny though that I seem to recall that Lou came in alone and left alone when he was sweating my match. I could be wrong but there was only about ten people there at the two tables in that section. I was pretty hyper aware of the surroundings and am pretty sure that no one was with Lou at the time. However I will happily admit I was wrong if one or more of these "knowledgable one pocket" people will call me and bet on their observations of my play against Kurt. After what I have seen of Lou I am more than willing to bet every penny I can get on this match.
