DCC 9 ball updates?

I saw the finals and was waiting for the crowd to jump to their feet after the last ball. No one in view on the stream as i saw it, stood to applaud. No one. All prior posters who commented on it before you, saw the same thing and even provided excuses for the crowd.

NO misses in a race to 11 by Lee Van!! Maybe it's just me but i like to show appreciation for super outstanding feats not just polite muted applause.Of course the finish wasn't exciting per se, It was just LVC efficiently making ball after ball, game after game under intense pressure as Filler (The King) warmed his seat.So boring!
Right where they are every year.
I didn't see it, but perfect pool is often boring to watch, it looks so easy.
But DAMN. Nice to bring top level play when you show up. Especially in the finals.

To me it was sweet watching Lee Van get out everytime in that silky smooth way. Today's power pool can be overwhelming at times...that was one of those vintage "go get the switch" and "I'm taking off my belt" butt whoopings. That was a classic
i'm going to have to buy this video cuz i didn't see it live streamed. van van is one of my favourite players, low key, smooth stroking and always cool under pressure. this would be his biggest rotation win in quite some time? i know he won world straight pool some year ago
He's always been a monster player. His win at this years DCC should not have been too surprising. If you give Fargo ratings the credit it deserves hes a top 15 player in the world and is above the 800 world class level rating. Any player in that range can win a major tournament on any given day. Replay the last 20 players of this years DCC next week and we would probably have a completely new last 4.

Maybe it’s because I could see it live at the venue, but what people describe as Leevan being smooth and such is not what we saw. Leevan was all over the place, his stroke was very choppy and jumpy, he looked like he never got comfortable even to the end. Yet through at all, he kept on making shots, and he made them look fairly easy. He was not playing great patterns for the most part. He looked like he struggled on most outs except for maybe two. I’m sure it lookee different on the monitor.
His break was inconsistent, as he sometimes made the corner ball (strange with the 9-ball on the spot)but often made just a random ball. I don't remember him making the 1-ball in the side. I’m sure he did, but it wasn't the repeatable 1-ball like most of the other good breakers were getting at this event. His kicking game was spectacular, which won him a couple of games.

I saw that versus DD in the match before but the finals he just looked like he went with a compact stroke and had all the accuracy in the world. I also think he switched his break, he was making the 1 in the side for most of the tourney but changed it to a more full hit with spin...maybe I need to see it again. I felt like he did a whole lot right

He always has quite an unusual stroke, and I didn't think it was any different in this match. He has a pretty short backswing and a rather quick transition. It's not the type of action that an instructor like Mark Wilson would advocate.
As for his breaking (10 times) in that final match, I think you are right about no 1's in the side. This should be fairly accurate:
- - dry 3 times (1 game win and 2 losses)
- foul scratch once (made the wing ball, lost the game)
- successful 6 times (all game wins, including 4 B&R's -- wing ball alone 3 times, wing ball and a random ball twice, a random ball alone once)
There are no brackets for these events (other than the Bigfoot 10-Ball). The format doesn't allow it. The match pairings are drawn for each round of play. They take everyone who won in the previous round, plus everyone who lost for the first time in the previous round and re-entered ("buy ins" or "buy backs"), and randomly draw the pairings for the next round. That process continues for each round of play. So all they can post is the pairings for the current round and the completed matches. I was sitting in front of you and I agree. (I knew you looked familiar but couldn't recall where from until I saw your Avatar) Like the match with DD, Lee Van was not flawless and certainly not boring. His stroke looked different, but it was consistent. He didn't have the perfect spread breaks or perfect position play Filler did against Van Boening. He was making hard shots to get back in shape and his kicks to get out of Filler's safes were incredible. To me, it was an exciting match.
Watching Lee Van play pool is akin to watching Lee Trevino play golf....
