DCC - Where to stay?

Pay the extra money! Its worth it in time gas and money! The action and times make it hard staying elsewhere. Plus, the nearby hotel is 30 minutes away.
If you don't mind sleeping in the derby ballroom or out in the car then the Hampton inn or best Western or holiday inn are close.

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn in New Albany twice now and it was very nice. Very comfortable clean room, a fairly large fresh continental breakfast spread and free WiFi in the rooms. It is only about 8 miles up one road from the casino and it is an easy drive with like two traffic lights. Was much cheaper for me to stay there getting the breakfast and WiFi than staying at the Horseshoe as I wasn't going to be splitting the cost of a room with anyone. And doesn't the Horseshoe overbook every year?
Is that I-64 bridge open yet?
I would say staying at the Horseshoe is definitely worth it. The casino is kind of out in the middle of nowhere so if you stay off site you'll probably get pretty tired of the drive back and forth. Also it's convenient to gave a room at the event site if you're into the late night after hours goings on.
The Horseshoe may well be booked as it's pretty close to tournament time. However I would call to make sure because the website will say no rooms are available when they actually are. Something to do with them being blocked off for the DCC.

3. I recommend booking either the New Albany, IN, Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. They're pretty much interchangeable and across the street from each other. I believe the casino was running a shuttle to them in past years.

I booked the holiday inn express middle of last week. $88 dollars a night with free breakfast.
I think mapquest says it takes 12 minutes to get to casino.
I'd agree with 12 minutes if you knew the roads turns, it was daylight, no snow, and no big line of cars to follow behind.

Plus allow time to find parking at the casino and also almost always one of the elevators is out so you have to wait for that.
Not that pool players are fat, but I've heard some beeps in the past in the elevator with only 4 people in it. Just sayin.

I think you can make staying at a different hotel work out just fine, but it will be a different experience. You'll probably have to stick to a more regular schedule. My game plan is to usually play things by ear because you never know when something cool might happen. I like being able to watch the matches then venture to the casino then go take a nap or have cocktails in the room then watch action or play. The important thing is going and experiencing it no matter how you get it done. It's awesome.
