Anyone who wonders why this sport suffers has only to try to watch the DCC on Accustats or TAR. I paid on accustats and it buffers every 30 seconds so the match if almost unwatchable. Go to TAR coverage and its zero, two guys playing for dinner has been the highlight of the day. Until something changes we are always going to be second rate

Its always someone else who causes the problems if you listen to TAR or Accustats. Their coverage sucks, always has, and apparantly always will.

I can see why you feel that way, but I respectfully disagree, I love what accu-stats/TAR are doing so far, the coverage is awesome, they doing as much as they could with the Internet they are provided with, with all that, and with my personal crappy internet aswell, It didn't buffer for me once on the LIVE coverage, now they are doing some replys, I'm not watching thoose, but on LIVE before the 1pocket, and the banks, it was running nice, It's true that the quality is kinda poor, but I understand why they made it that way, because of the slow internet , for it to run, they probably had to make the quality either medium, or poor. Because i don't see the balls as rounded on full-screen, I rather see them little square, little circle, but again thats understandable, I love accu-stats, Thanks to Pat/ Jim/ Bill, and all the Staff of this awesome company, respect.

My internet connection isn't crappy, and I do appreciate their attempt, but the coverage sucks.

for all you guys that bash TAR or Accu-stats, keep one thing in mind. They have no control over the networking issues at ANY location. They are at the mercy of whatever bandwidth is available and what the quality is.

I repeat, NO CONTROL. If you want to ***** to anyone, it should be the Horseshoe Casino. Tell them it is not acceptable, that they need to get a better connection. I spoke to Rod, the IT guy there several months ago and asked him what they were going to do about the problems from last year. He said they would look into getting a faster pipe with Cox or someone else.

I called him again a couple of weeks before the tourney and asked if they did anything. He said no. So there you go..... it's not Accu-stats or TAR's fault. TAR waits until Accu-stats is done before they start broadcasting.

The way I look at it, when the streamers cannot dictate the conditions, then there is only 2 choices. No stream at all, or do the best you can with what you have to work with.

I know as a pool fan, I would choose the latter. If it's unwatchable, then I don't watch. But I know who to blame and who not to blame for it.

What's Rod's full name and address?

I appreciate Accu-stats and TAR. But I think that, up front they should determine if it is possible to stream an event. If the venue, or the tournament organizers aren't going to make streaming possible, then just don't try it.

All the points are well taken. It just gets frustrating that this game seems to take a half a** approach to everything. The earlier poster is right, something is better than nothing.

not sure which accu-stats you watched but it has been great for 2 days. for you to come on here with under 20 posts and bash them is very rude.

This has come up recently

JCIN, on another thread a week or so ago, discussed the fact that they (streamers) are at the absolute mercy of the venues that they stream from with respect to the internet capabilities. Bad bandwidth = quality issues.

What CaliRed is saying, not only makes logical sense, but additionally, he apparently got it from the horse's mouth, in the DCC case, their IT guy who admits doing nothing to address a known problem from last year.

Rep to you CaliRed!

Best,
Brian kc

I haven't bought the AccuStats yet. So far I have watched the free stream on TAR through Ustream.

Most of the time it played just fine. I live in China and I have to go through a VPN server in Los Angeles just to be able to get ustream at all.

I have watched a TAR match from my dad's place in OKC with a FAT internet connection where the stream absolutely would not work. I gave my login to someone else and let them have it that weekend.

On the other hand I have watched TAR matches from here and some have been flawless. The Dippy/Alex match from Vegas was stellar. That's on AudioVideoWeb and not Ustream - same as AccuStats. I think it's kind of like playing the lottery that all the stars line up both for the streamers and the viewers when you get a good stream.

When I watch youtube for example sometimes it plays like watching tv and sometimes it buffers constantly.

One thing I do to check whether the issue is on the streamer's end or mine is go to other streams to see how they come across. On Ustream you can go to thousands of live shows - I try to pick high profile branding events because I assume that they will be streaming with a good connection - and I try to pick low-rent webcam shows to see how they do. IF they both play fine then I assume it's on the pool streamer's end. If not then I assume it's on my end.

Personally I see live streaming as in it's infancy. Kind of like the telephone in 1920. It is going to take several years for venues to understand that they need to provide really fast connections for streamers.

That said it was 2003 I think when I went to Derby for a week and then came home early. At home I bought the PPV to catch the finals and watched Ralf Souquet win it I think in the 9 ball. The AccuStats/BCN stream was flawless for me then.

Given all the absolutely GREAT matches we have seen over the years and the fact that with every stream there are some folks who get it with no problem and others who don't I think it's very unfair to blame the streamers. TAR for example hauls a crapload of gear to each event and they stay up around the clock. AccuStats has a full on TV production setup complete with a jib boom that stretches out over the table and requires a full time operator.

They are doing all they can to bring you live pool with excellent production value. In a lot of ways I bet that pool streaming is ahead of a lot of other sports/activities when it comes to live webcasts.

As to complaining about "content" on TAR - when they provide the FREE stream then it's simply broadcasting the "action" room with zero control over who plays on the table being broadcast. Well I think that they have a little control but for the most part it's just whoever happens to match up there first.

Later when they have the PPV they should have some action matches lined up that will go off more or less as planned.

One thing that I think AccuStats does not have which they probably should is a way to issue refunds to those who abolsutely cannot view the stream. I paid last year and couldn't get it to work no matter what and I asked for a credit to use on the archived matches and got zero response.

Probably just an oversight and the result of Pat and crrew wearing many hats but I still think it's something that someone should be on top of.

Overall though I give all the streamers an A+ for effort, endurance and passion. They are WAY WAY WAY underpaid for the time and effort they put in.

Well I have had no buffering at all for 3 days so I think you are very wrong.

But I will say that there was an unauthorized streamer who took it upon himself to just start streaming at about the time you had problems.

If this is what caused you to bash these great streamers you jumped the gun !

Many things can cause problems. The main one they are dealing with is the internet they have been provided with to work with.
Considering this they are doing a fantastic job !

well tvmike was just tryin to give people a free stream but i did buy the accu-stats stream and i didn't have any problems but dont bash tvmike for just tryin too do a good thing maybe some people cant afford a $70 stream

I bought the accu-stats stream last night for the first time this year cause I was at the Derby friday and Saturday and I didn't have no problems watching the stream.

I decent way to get rid of this problem is for UStream to have a buffer option for the uploaders. Say start the stream on a couple minute delay. Needless to say I haven't had any issues with the streams for the time that I have watched.

dcc

Maybe it was my cable system if everyone else had no probs. If so then my bad if I jumped the gun.

well as I said in my previous post in this thread that I had no problem with accu-stats in the past dcc days, never buffers, low quality well sure as we know they had slow internet, but it was working all the time.

But sadly today I just purchased the Night session accu-stats, started the stream, and today It's not watchable for me, buffering all the time , what i mean by that is, it's Working for 10seconds, then stopping for 10seconds, then working 10sec, then stopping, All the way, it had been for the past 30mins or so, Don't know what to do to fix this, please help me as i feel like i thrown some money in the garbage, can't see the matches like that.

EDIT: Now its working good, thank you accu-stats, Right now I'm watching a reply of a nick varner match, It's really wonderful, and boy I love it because Grady is commentating, When Grady Mathews is commentating it brings the game to different level of awesomeness, and I learn alot. I really wish he is commentating in the Derby of this year too.
