Dealing with Slow Players

Let them out think it!!

What is the best way to deal with an extremely slow player when in a tournament or gambling.

Most slow players I run into either are very indecisive (don't know what to do) or intent on trying to get in your head. I just stand and watch, if it is a tournament someone else will speak up. Doesn't phase me one bit, gives me more time to plan my out or safe.

Wait for your turn, what else can you do. In a tournament they may be reprimanded by a ref. Gambling what are you going to do. Maybe if it is so bothersome you just don't play with the guy. It can be a distraction and if you dwell on it it will only bother you worse.

I used to be annoyed by slow play, not anymore now, everyone has their tempo and I have mine, when I am at the table I play my tempo, that's it.

I can't stand slow players... these are what I do to keep myself from going nuts in the chair.

1. Try to be a casual observer and wait for my opportunity instead of eyeing my opponent's every move and letting frustration build up.

2. Look at it positively as a chance to practice my patience and mental game for when I play a top-flight player and have to wait long periods of time between shots.

3. Or the easiest of all, don't bother playing 'em in the first place, if possible.

Make sure your phone is fully charged and start texting people between shots.

Yes, you can do that, or just take bathroom breaks when it's your shot... Give them a taste of their own medicine.....I don't really know why they want to put on the "stall". C'mon, they only have two choices, it's this shot, or that one.... What is there to think about....

If its a tourney, call the ref...put'em on the clock....the ref or tournment director
can call loss of game/set/match.
If its gamblin and you're stealin, just sit and smile.
If its tough action, your cue has a joint for more than one reason..UN-SCREW!
Put your cue in its case, take a seat.
Do not put up with with a slow player.
He knows what he's doin.
There is other action around.
In my day, slow players got NO action, and most played faster, or left town.
The only person who can manage you is YOU!
Good luck
ps
Last guy I played made 2 phone calls, and sent 5 texts.
He now has to give up the nutz to play....and I think he will....

This ^ about sums it up.

There was one guy I used to play. He got slower and slower each time we played, so I watched the clock to see how long he was taking. Then I played another guy who I thought was taking an average amount of time to shoot and watched the clock. I saw that guy number one was taking four times as long, so I quit playing him.

Dont let his slow play affect your decisions. He isnt going to change.

YEP.

I used to shoot trap and was shooting a field gun (Remington 1100) at the time and sometimes I got nervous and I took a bit more time than the guys shooting the "over and under". Finally an old guy came up to me after shooting the round and said, "When it is your turn to shoot, you own the range, take your time, and relax. Don't worry about the other folks, just stay focused on your target"

Shooting trap, skeet, and sporting clays, to me, is like playing pool.

Give it some thought.

extreme slow play is definitely a form of sharking. in my mind it allows me to shark him back. talk to him or her all the time before they shoot instead of talking on the phone.

otherwise don't play the because as others have stated they won't change.

Slow players should be banned from competition until they can adapt to playing at a decent pace. They are selfish and greedy. Why? Because they eat up precious tournament time. They throw entire tournaments out of sync. They know it, and they do it anyway. If a match gets put on the clock, it already has fallen behind.

How many times have you seen a row of players sitting and waiting for a slow player to finish so the matches can catch up and they will get to play sometime in this century?

Also, If your match is scheduled based on 1 1/2 hour time slot and your opponent uses up most of that time for himself to progress 1/4 of the way through the match, how much time does that leave you?

I'm referring to people who are known to be slow players, not a player who occasionally drops into slower play due to stress during a match. That person may not be aware that he does it and just needs some guidance.

That may or may not be true but you should never change your game or habits as a ploy to get even with the other player. You will be the one to suffer.
People on here often talk about competing to learn and get experience. Playing with a slow player is one of the things you will just have to learn to deal with.

Fortunately it doesn't happen that often but when it does you have to be able to deal with it and not have it upset your game. That is part of being a player. Other players are not going to alter their play or habits just to please you.

Suppose you are playing straight pool. You may sit in the chair for 15 or 20 minutes between shots. You learn to deal with it that is just part of the game.

The late Freddy the Beard could be a slow player at times. Years ago I played him a 100 points of straight pool for $100.00 a good bet back then. My first open inning I ran maybe 50 or 60 I don't remember but it was quick because I used t play fast before I missed. Freddy came to the table and this was the first time I ever saw him play straight pool.

OH my God. He began shooting and I sat there and sat there. Freddy had a habit of turning his cue in his grip hand as he stroked that could drive you nuts if you began to dwell on it.

I had a soda, ate a chili dog went to my car for a while it was unbelievable. He almost ran out running around 85 and he played me safe. This took well over an hour.

I ended up losing the game and I have to admit I had no interest in playing another. He was just too slow. But that is my choice.

Remember the movie the Hustler

Fats,
"Shoot pool Fast eddie"

Fast Eddie,
"I am shooting pool Fats, when I miss you can shoot".

I use one of 2 methods;
1. I hold up my thumb until he asks what I am doing, I say, "it is my survey transit to see if you are moving or not"
2. I bought a long grey wig and put it on and hang my head down pretending I am asleep.....
