Dear Mr. Wilson,
I would like to take a dispassionate look at starting a carom billiards buy/sell category if I may?
I think one can make a strong argument for creating a carom billiards buy/sell category.
Let me start by refuting any slippery slope arguments some may use for not having this special category. Here's the classic " If we have a seperate buy/sell category for caroms...next every category would want a buy/sell category"
Answer 1: And how is that a problem? Sounds like a good problem to grapple with.
Answer 2: AZ created a category after the death of Steve Mizerak. Did people clamor for a Paul Newman category when he passed? He certainly did more exponentially to popularize pool than Steve Mizerak could ever hope to ( no disrespect). I would submit that they didn't clamor for one.
Mr Wilson, I suspect you may not have the authority to create another category. I am emailing this post to both Jerry and Mike. I want you on my side. Let me try to convince you to agree with me.
1. caroms uses different size/design/brand tables
2. caroms uses different cloth on the table.
3. caroms uses different balls in size/color/markings
4. caroms uses different cue weights/lengths/tapers/brands
5. carom players fall into a different demographic than pool players
I could go on but I hope I made some points by differentiating the 2 disciplines.
There is my case. If you want to negotiate a compromise I'm all ears. How about a 3month test period to track the success of the new category? If the metrics doesn't merit this category's continuation..then I say nothing ventured nothing gained.
