Dear Mr. Wilson,

I would like to take a dispassionate look at starting a carom billiards buy/sell category if I may?

I think one can make a strong argument for creating a carom billiards buy/sell category.

Let me start by refuting any slippery slope arguments some may use for not having this special category. Here's the classic " If we have a seperate buy/sell category for caroms...next every category would want a buy/sell category"
Answer 1: And how is that a problem? Sounds like a good problem to grapple with.
Answer 2: AZ created a category after the death of Steve Mizerak. Did people clamor for a Paul Newman category when he passed? He certainly did more exponentially to popularize pool than Steve Mizerak could ever hope to ( no disrespect). I would submit that they didn't clamor for one.

Mr Wilson, I suspect you may not have the authority to create another category. I am emailing this post to both Jerry and Mike. I want you on my side. Let me try to convince you to agree with me.

1. caroms uses different size/design/brand tables
2. caroms uses different cloth on the table.
3. caroms uses different balls in size/color/markings
4. caroms uses different cue weights/lengths/tapers/brands
5. carom players fall into a different demographic than pool players

I could go on but I hope I made some points by differentiating the 2 disciplines.

There is my case. If you want to negotiate a compromise I'm all ears. How about a 3month test period to track the success of the new category? If the metrics doesn't merit this category's continuation..then I say nothing ventured nothing gained.

I can't understand why anyone would be against adding this category . . .
. . . and, how difficult can it be to add another category, give it a try . . .
JUST DO IT!!

This Question was ask by Bill Smith [Mr3Cushion] in a poll question thread, Which I myself didn't vote in or add a comment.

Yes .. I have use Carom Billiards Forum section to Sale in , along with listing Freebie items... Some of my post have been deleted also. But been a Gold Member might give me some benefit.

True Carom Billiards should have it own sale section that can target Carom player only. as should snooker section when it come to cue and instructional materials strictly for carom.

Mr. Wilson ... I don't know what correpond behind the scene with Mr3Cushion or you... other than he have a business website, as other on AZ forum. I will say... I appreciated what Bill is doing for 3C and didn't mind him posting sale item in carom billiards section.

The only other places to post carom items is ebay or USBA Forum Sale section, but you must be a member to reply . Remember I'm USBA #1 Nonmember [Title given to me by former USBA President Dennis Dieckman [DeeKaMon]. But support USBA in other way. Just as I support AZ by been a Gold member.

I haven't really followed all the arguing between bill and yourself. Bill can be a bit gruff, but that's just bill. However, I think that his idea is a good one. Either make a new section, or just stop hassling the few folks that post two or three ads a month in the carom section, (or less). This is small percentage of items and isn't hurting anyone personally, and certainly doesn't hurt the forum in general. The pool guys don't care because they never look at our section on the forums, anyway. You can get upset and spout the "rules" all you want. However, in the end, it is, "just a forum", and you start to alienate your users, by being such a stickler. Relax a little and have a beer or something to calm your nerves....then sit back and think....have the hundreds of ads, that have already been posted over the years in the carom section, EVER caused an issue with ANYONE? Has anyone, besides yourself, ever complained to any moderator or member about the handfull of items posted in that section? I'm going to guess that the answer is no. Because very few items, don't detract from the caroms forum, they actually enhance it. Just my two cents.

Here's a suggestion. Perhaps we as a group, should decide to go to the USBA for a open forums section. Pretty much everyone migrated here because the forums weren't open to non-members on the old website. If we don't agree with the rulings of AZB, it's ok, we can always do our own thing, somewhere else. We're not a large part of the community on these forums anyways. Jim? Doug? Andy? Steve? Any thoughts? Is it possible to have a decent forums section, like this, on the current usba site? That non-members could join?

Maybe USBA could have a subscribe Gold, Bronze, Sliver membership payment also for nonmember as AZBilliards???? If they want.

Personally I would like to see a buy\sell category in the Carom billiard section. This site is kind of a one stop shop for me. I can check out all areas of the pool\billiard world on AZ. I don't know much about how it works but I don't think it would be that hard to set up another category. My 2 cents paid in full.

Basically, the moderators have decided that they are not willing to change the rules, just for the carom section, regardless of the response from the users. So, this conversation is over, as far as, allowing f/s items, or adding a new catagory to the carom section.

Jamie,

Your last post implied you know something regarding a decision from AZ. Did you speak/communicate to a principal from AZ or are you speculating?

Jamie; I could of told you, you were wasting your time! And it's a shame!

P.S. I almost forgot, you have to keep a lookout for 2 rare "California Condors" AKA "Stool pigeons!"

I have communicated with Mike Howerton. He will be having a conversation with both Jerry Forsyth (and I trust Dave Wilson). When Mike gets back with me I will share that conversation with the carom forum ( unless of course there are statements off the record)

Stay tuned. By the way...our category has over 2700 threads posted. I think that is strong! Keep up the excellent topics on this forum.

As promised, here is the response from Jerry Forsyth.
I paraphrase .....No, as imperfect as the forums are currently constituted, the forum changes are not a priority and therefore no recommendations will be considered or changes made at this time.

As Draconian as this approach is...none the less...it is their site to do as they wish and I must respect that.
