I have a similar controller and i thought it went bad. I replaced the controller, and it worked a while, then it started messing up again. Turned out the brushes were worn down. I turned em 180 degrees and its worked ever since. Just a thought.

On the subject of switches going bad,my Enco mini lathe used to have a problem burning up on/off switches. I bypassed it eventually. The on/off is now the potentiometer/speed control.
On my Chinese wood lathe,the switch went bad within a month. I replaced it with a simple light switch like we all have in our walls. No problems since. Tommy D.
