Denny Searcy

I'm def gonna get one of jays books I'm not an avid reader but obviously enjoy the books that u just can't put down. I remember in college I wrote a paper on pool and went to the library n got every book they had n one in particular was great it had some stories and the like. I wanna say it was by a guy whose name was exactly or real similar to an actual famous author like John Grisham or something I forget but it was pretty good and totally lucky that I came across it

In that book by Grissom was a photo of a very young Efren Reyes. Grissom stated that there were players in the Philippines who could spot the best American players the eight ball. No one believed him, including me. I spoke with John at the Caesars Tahoe tournament in 1982 and asked him if he was serious about his claims of Philippine superiority and he told me I will see for.myself some day. How right he was!

Sonny; with all due respect because you honesty have as much gamble and as much heart as ANYONE, I think you might be a little off in your assessment. Chemical management was around LONG before 98. Just imo, I think taking dozens of $5000 OR MORE hits over a couple year period stakehorsing might have put a bad taste in your mouth. You literally had ALL the pros flying in to play your horses ( min $5k ) any given night they would be lined up on the bar waiting to get their turn. One funny one that comes to mind was Donut vs Keith. Donuts talking about how he's stealing and what not, mean while Keith was spotting him the 7 ball!!! A ND PLAYING opposite hand the WHOLE TIME LOL AND KEITH CUT HIM UP! Sorry, but not sure anyone wouldn't start Ron have a bad taste in their mouth. The of course tl, but I won't even go there . I could go on but you know what I'm saying. Take beatings like that and it's got to make you feel the way you do!

You're correct on the timeline. Better playing through chemistry was rampant when Myrtle Beach was a hot spot in the early eightys. It just got to be too much for me in the 90s. I would not change one thing though. Just a song on the radio brings back so many priceless memories. I'm in NC now. Thinking of checking out Randolph. Never been to Chandleys. Good way to pass the winter and try playing without glasses. Thanks for the kind words. Our integrity was all we had then. Now to see if I have a cue!

Yea I thought it was John grissam lol idk if he wrote multiple books but it was a decent read especially considering I wasn't expecting it at all. And like I said I can prolly count on two hands the number of books I've read front to back on my own in my life but when a book is so great you don't want to stop reading I love it and I'm sure Jay's books are like that. I'm def gonna put it on my list this year for Santa :) I'll check back after Xmas with how much I enjoyed them!!!

I played pool with a very strong player in Memphis and we got to be friends and I asked about where he grew up.

He said SF, and I asked if he knew Denny Searcy.

This guy told me that growing up he played all day Saturday and all day Sunday, and went to school Monday through Friday, but Denny never went to school and played 7 days a week growing up.

He echoed much of what has been said, that he was the best player he had ever seen.
