Derby action - Frost / Richie Rich

Though Scott Frost is a One-Pocket machine, I like Richie Rich in this match-up for one reason. Richie plays daily, gets on there and battles, whether for games of stake or tournaments. He's in the best stroke of his capability. Scott, on the other hand, has not been playing every day and engaged in battles the way Richie is.

I will be interested to see who comes out on top. I think it's a good game for both, with Richie maybe having a slight edge because of him playing on a daily basis.

Richie never plays anymore. That's what's wrong with this match. He's so far out of pool stroke, I'm surprised anyone would stake this game.

Richie might be playing every day but he gets a beat down playing top players with a spot

It wouldn't be the first time that a player took less of a spot than needed, in order to get in action with a backer's money..

I'm also not a one pocket player. How does this work with a rack of 15 balls with, say, an 8-7 score. Does the first ball made by the player giving weight get spotted?

No, there are enough balls (15) to play the game out. If the score was 7-6 (both needing one ball) there would still be two balls left on the table. You can actually go up to 16 total and still not need to spot any balls (such as 9-7 or 10-6 spot). When you reach 17 total (9-8 etc.) then you need to spot one ball if you're going to 9. At 18 (10-8) you would spot two balls and so on as the total increases. Got it?

Ok, ready? An even game is 8-to-8 and that's 16, right? So, 9-8=17,right? So, if playing 9-8 the player giving the spot would spot one ball and go to 8. Follow me? Another example: say the spot was 15-5. Thats 20,right? Spotting player would spot 4 then go to eleven. If spot equals 16(or less) no balls would be spotted. In your scenario no balls would spot because total is less than 16.

Thanks, Jay. Think I got it but this is a 9-8 spot between Frost and Richie, so one ball does go up, right? And that's the first ball made by the player giving weight or the first ball made by either player? When does the ball get spotted?
Garczar here, not Jay. Frost would spot one ball as soon as he has one at the end of his inning. Richie is getting weight, he doesn't spot anything unless he fouls.

There is no pool tournament like DC. All the action is what pool is all about.

I like both of these guys and it says a whole lot that they are betting it up.

Let the best man win. I never in my whole life saw a real pool tournament until I went to DC.

Money won is a lot more important than money earned.

You would know better than I for sure. I'm out of the loop. Only learn what I know lately from reading.

I don't think I would like to bet on this match-up, but it will be an interesting one.

Gosh, I did not know that. I guess I only read about the wins and not the losses. :embarrassed2:

I guess it's like the fisherman. He brags about the Big Kahuna he catches, but never mentions the times he caught nothing to let the Big Kahuna get away. :D

I wanted to add: Scott is a monster and I love his game. He will not beat Shane or Tony! I've got all takers.

You'll get all the action you want, if either of these 2 players battle Scott even. But neither of them will.
