Design Contest - fast&loose designs

2nd Edition

I posted the Hustler version with the 4 main characters one on each side. Then was thinking if that was used to come back with a second edition cube honoring the Color of Money using , Newman, Cruise, Mastrantonio, and Keith McCready.
The two movies that pumped new life into Pool.

I was thinking this then thought instead of Mastrantonio I would put COM on the other side or maybe On The Snap

To the original poster..

Anyway you could make one and post a picture or two. Might give everyone more visual to think about when coming up with ideas

Even though its not pool related I could see people wanting one with their favorite sports team or teams on the sides.

Will do! I'll post something later today.

It is what I want - design ideas. It's not a secret. The reward is an expensive piece of Sterling Silver custom art. Those who post ideas understand that.

There is a reason that you are getting these types of remarks. I assume that you are aware of the Design Your Dream contest that Bill Stroud ran here? If not, you should do a search, and read up on what happened....or, more accureately what didn't happen. Meaning that lots of folks put lots of work into their ideas and submissions, and no prize was ever awarded.

So yes, those who post ideas here do understand....

You may very well have every intention of following through with your promise, I don't want you to think that I am casting aspersions on you specifically. I'm just trying to show you why you may get some resistance.

I understand. A few months back, I ran 5 "$100 fast&loose Challenge" racks here on AZB (of which I intend to do more of), and paid out all money. You can check with winners. I am a man of my word, and although I am a pool player, I'm not a scoundrel! Thanks for the heads-up, I think I do recall that competition.

Once again, I am not trying to insinuate that you are doing anything but running what should be a fun contest.

I'm just trying to help you understand some of the responses. I'm posting on my phone, which is difficult for me to post links with. If you search Stroud DYD, you ought to find the big thread beating this to death.

Good luck with your contest. I hope it goes well.

Here's an example of a simple idea. This is from one of the t-shirts I sell. I wanted to show this not only to give some ground to your concepts, but so that you can see that I'm not just going to Photoshop your idea - it actually gets built, rendered, then printed by a 3D printer. In this case, in Sterling Silver. This is just a quick look at a concept through to a rendering.

My pet peeve is people placing the chalk face down on the rail a chalk holder like this would prevent that and could look cool in plastic or metal.

I am not proficient with Micro$ Paint but I think it conveys the idea.

Like a lot of the ideas so far

I like a lot of the ideas so far. How about just a simple $...

I think the silver holder looks very nice.

How about simple flaming 8 and 9 balls on alternating sides for one.

Had a flame job on my first Harley and will always like a flame job whether it be on a Harley or a Hot Rod. Old School paint.

My next Tat will be a flaming 8 ball on my fore arm.

Maybe knuckle tats. PFFP. Pool forever, forever Pool. Just kidding.

Wish I had Photo Shop on my computer. Used to be able to do the odd Photo Chop in the past. But there are lots of examples of flaming billiard balls on the net that one can look at.

I like this image a lot, too, but I don't think it's in the public domain. I'd have to be sure before using it.

It's a rolyalty-free stock image. You can get it in vector format. Still my favorite choice.

If I can make a suggestion:

There's already wide assortment of skulls, flaming 8-balls, sharks holding pool cues, luck 8 balls, evil looking 9 balls, and other flash tattoo-vomit that Ed Hardy would love to see on a t-shirt. Where's the classy, simple stated billiards ephemera?

I think the sterling silver would lend itself well to the turn-of-the-19th-century billiards logos that featured fancy filigree, art nouveau, and art-deco lettering.

I'm working on a little design. Hopefully I finish in time.

I was thinking of a design where you engrave one of more sides to look like a billiards token...

You could design one in that style, and it would weather nicely as the sterling silver ages and wears down. Maybe include some of the following design elements or slogans:

1) Crossed cues and balls (similar to the USBA logo)
2) "Good For One Game" "Any Time - Any Place"
3) Could include player name/nickname/initials.

I say 4 commonly recognizable images that appeal to almost everyone. Not necessarily these exact images but the rack, the 8 ball, the player, and the crossed cues I believe would work perfect.

I would like a custom SS holder made if you do them. PM me.

Maybe something like this on 4 sides:

A text only idea:

Put 5 pool slogans or sayings on each of the sides. Various fonts or incorporate pseudo logos like the "master chalk" one you did.

Some examples of the sayings;

- You're a Nit!
- I need a spot.
- Ride the Nine!
- Fast & Loose
- The Impossible Dream
- Like a Nightmare
