Design Your Dream

Not even sure mine is do-able...but I'll throw it out there:

Beautiful old growth Brazilian Rosewood backend, full spliced/long spliced into an old growth piece of straight grained maple nose...the kicker here is that it must be a bridged veneer full splice/long splice, and incorporate black paper veneers in between the regular veneers; purple, green and blue (no particular order) to compliment the shades of the 4 abalone fleur de lis inlays (trimmed in ivory) in the butt and one in each point...with the entire butt to remain wrapless. Silver trimmed ivory Hoppe ring; Hoppe butt cap and plate. Piloted SS 5/16-14 joint. Joint and shaft collars to contain a simple silver trimmed thin ivory ring. Two high ring count old growth 12.85mm maple shafts with excellent tonal quality. Overall weight has to come in between 18.5-18.75 oz.

What I mean by ivory trimmed abalone fleur de lis inlays is actually an abalone fleur set inside of an ivory fleur, creating the ivory 'trim'.

Veneer colors falling into the color spectrum of these colors:

Like I previously stated...it is a dream, not sure if it's do-able in the least...but my dream cue nonetheless.

Send in a sketch. A description will not convey the idea to the other people.

Bill, this is a fantastic gesture....no doubt you will get some interesting submissions.

Here's one that I've been toying around with for awhile but haven't had made yet....think it could be tweaked to look really nice. Basically, amboyna nose with ebony points (veneered), ivory wedge with veneered scallops in between points, ebony butt sleeve, "crown rings" would be ebony and ivory, ivory joint & butt cap. Inlays would be mainly ivory, with some silver dots and amboyna accents around the diamonds.

PS - I want to personally thank you for all that you have done over the years and continue to do with cues for the cuemaker/collector community.

Sean

Dream cue

Ebony Box Cue! Colors for box's veneers white and green with white center boxes. Each box would have one of each Timi, Danny, You and Mike eched into them and would be equal size two high and two low with one oval opal inlay above the low boxes and below the high boxes for continueity all finishing at the same high and low levels.
I can't decide if it should be the Timi with big hair or Timi at his builder of the year cerimony.
And cookie sandwich rings at all positions green, white, green.
For the buttsleve 4 opal ovals inlays and white boxes would reverse what was above them in the forearm! The boxes would be small with each builders logo's and the opals larger in the buttsleve. The butt cap would be .50 white.
Black Lizzard wrap!
58 inches and under 21 ounces balanced in front of the wrap with a ivory joint of any construction! 13.25 mm ferrels. All I need is a scrtch now!
I would leave the exact dimensions of each element to the builders judgement.
The cue would almost impossable to do because matching the veneers and rings would be insane! But if all rings were wood!!!
Nick :)

I will give it a shot. Bill hope you like these designs.BR and Maple Same cue but linen or leather wrap. Pro taper on shaft with 13mm tip. They also could use marching diamond shape rings at all positions.
This cue was drawn by Xpatcan who has the pic below mine. A special thanks to Justin.

hello Bill

This is an incredible contest! i am floored by you generosity!

i started dreaming up cue designs and drawing them using MS paint for about 2 years now. I have also been helping a few people here on AZ bring there design to life using MS paint, its really become a hobby to just draw cues and play with different designs (i see a few in this thread already haha).

This is my ultimate dream cue! i have actually shown this design to a handfull of cuemakers and its way out of my price range.
this cue is almost completely made of ivory with 3 veneers on each point, black, white (not ivory), black.
3-8x11 brass joint pin, brass and ivory rings. long points are cocobolo or a very deep red amboyna burl.

Dream Cue !

Where does it say that the deadline for this is Nov 5th ? I looked at all the post's and didn't see a deadline. Dan

Twisted box cue

Here is my idea. It is simplistic in materials, but not in design as the boxes wrap around the cue.

Spoke to you (Bill) some 25 or so years ago (while I was still working in the nuclear industry) about building me a cue. I never got around to placing the order and have always regretted that decision.

The cue would weigh 19.75 oz (+0, -.25oz) and be 59" in length, equally divided between butt and shafts. Shafts would need have 13.25mm tips (Triangles are fine). Uncapped Juma ferrules of 3/4" length. Would prefer a butt diameter of 1.3".

Amended design with concurence of Bill Stroud.

The atom symbols could be made from silver wire for the orbits with an ivory nucleus. Would prefer the points and spears to also have the same border of silver.

Anyway, hope this didn't come out looking goofy.

Thanks for doing this!!

I am starting a new thread call Design Your Dream. I am offering the opportunity for anyone, player, cuemaker, collector, interested party to design the cue of their dreams. I will make it free of charge no matter what the price.

The rules are simple:

Present your design online on the AZ Billiards Main forum or the Cue and Case Gallery forum.

No gold, diamonds or other precious stones.

The design must consist of the usual cue materials. wood, ivory, silver, etc.

It can be as plain or as fancy as you like.

After a certain period, I will pick the 5 top designs.

Anyone that submitted a design can then vote for the design they like best.

I will make that design and present it to the winner at no charge.

Bill Stroud

I drew many cues. how can I send?
