Deuel "Excited" About IBSF World Snooker Experience

Sunday

Corey plays Zhao of China today at 3 pm (?) Eastern. Zhao has shown himself to be one of the two strongest players in the P Group, and Corey will have a hard time faring any better than he did at the hands of Lee Walker of Wales. For Corey of course this match really doesn't matter (which is fortunate), all depends on his match with Vaitzman on Monday. But Sunday will be another day in the school of hard knocks, and hopefully Corey will continue to learn.

Besides Corey's showdown with Vaitzman, also on Monday Zhao will play Walker, and that should be an interesting match between two of the best.

I'm done with the 'Pathetic Shark' interaction. Is there any video of Corey Deuel playing snooker? I can't find anything on YouTube.

Snooker would require a complete restructuring in his game based on what I've seen of him playing pool. I'm surprised that he's doing this.

I don't know if there is some video on youtube of him playing snooker. I did watch him in the streamed US championship. His play was good, maybe even better than I expected, BUT..He will have to step up his game a lot to have any chance at winning a tournament such as this one. I am a Corey Deuel fan and really wish the best for him, have that in mind before you read the following:

People in the US frequently underestimate the depth of the talent in snooker. Since it has a lot of money and prestige in it, it is taken very seriously from an early age. It is not enough to be talented (as Corey is without a doubt), but you also need coaching from childhood to have any chance as a pro. When you watch the youtube videos of snooker pros, remember that there are thousands of players of just a hair less skill than the ones you see.

It is different than pool because the level of play is much closer, but the gap between them is close to insurmountable. I happen to know a player like that. Since snooker is so brutal, with little if any real luck involved these people stand next to no chance in a pro tournament even though they are immensely talented and train very hard indeed. The pros train at expensive training facilities and have advantages over any amateur that are almost impossible to overcome. You can see a player playing near perfect snooker, yet he stands no chance against a pro.

In the streaming videos i watched, Corey was not yet at this very high "shortstop" level. He played very well and his mechanics were good. He stood a bit higher above the cue than most snooker professionals but made some good shots. He played a bit more aggressively than most snooker players also, but that is his style. It is not impossible that he may reach a higher level, but against the pros I do not believe he will ever have a chance. All that being said, if he does do well in this tournament, maybe some americans will learn more about snooker, which is good and it may spur him on and make him an even better pool player than he all ready is. I think that his best chance of becoming better is to stay for some time in the UK or possibly Canada and train against the best caliber of player he can find AND get coaching from a pro snooker coach. If he should win this tournament I will be the first to admit I was wrong, but I'm not preheating my oven for my crow dinner just yet.

I hate having to be the one to tell you this but snooker is boring as hell. Sorry snooker fans.

I think that asking a top-level pool player to switch to snooker for the money is asking them to sell their soul.

Pool players with principles stronger than a £250,000 cheque? Loooool.

question answered

Well looking a little harder,

"Bilans" is just frames won less frames lost, in Corey's case he has won 5 frames and lost 8, so his "Bilans" is -3 frames.

The "frame average" is just your "Bilans" divided by matches played, so in Corey's case -1.

The Bilans is I suppose the tiebreaker, in case 2 players end up with the same number of wins. In Corey's case that is not going to come into play.

He must win against Vaitzman of Israel on Monday to advance to the knockout round.

tee-off

Zhao, age 16, and Corey fixing to tee it up.

Vaitzman leads Iulian 1 frame to 0, but Iulian is playing well in the 2nd.

Baldandorj is showing fight against Walker, still in the first frame.

Corey unwraps a new strategy - he is making the black over and over.

A safety battle, Corey fouls and Zhao is off and running - red, black, red, black, red, black, red - 25 points.

First frame to Zhao.

Imagine how hard it would be to get a top-level pool pro to agree to not play pool for three years.

Imagine how hard it would be for a top-level pool pro to not play pool for three years and play poker instead? No, wait!

What was that about "selling their soul" again, Bob?

Format

Here is an article from SnookerUSA -
http://www.snookerusa.com/news/201312011346-deuel-in-good-spirits-despite-another-loss-in-latvia

Would also like to comment on the round-robin format, 4 of 6 progressing - It is the best!

These guys travel a long ways, and the round-robin format gives them a good many chances to play, no matter how out-gunned they are or how bad their draw.

There's another thread going right now re the US typical 2-loss format, that it's "dead", and you know they're right. The round-robin format fulfills the same function, giving a lesser player plenty of table time, and does it in a fairer, better manner.

Hope to see the round-robin format over here!

Corey versus Vaitzman, may the best man win!

Update

Vaitzman and Deuel are tied 2-2 (3:40 Eastern Time)

Looks like Zhao beat Walker! Wow that 16 year old can play!!

Vaitzman won

Vaitzman won, as far as I can tell 4-2. It was 2-2, Corey fought hard! What a great experience for Corey!

You always have some silly remark about how snooker is better, or american's cant play as well as Euro's. If Corey does well in snooker, it would prove you have no idea what you're talking about, and are in fact, just running off at the mouth.

And now what do you think jhanso18 ?

Great last article you posted Chesscat, CD shows a lot of class. I hope he continues to play and compete at snooker.
