Deuel Stroke/Dr. Cue's Protege/Youtube

They do show Corey shooting the shot, and it's not Matchroom, but Accu-Stats and the Billiard Club network.

I wonder if anyone has a clip of the shot from the Mosconi Cup a few years back? It's the one where he pushes out against Nick Van den Berg (I think) and ends up shooting a jump-masse with the CB about 2-3 in. of the end rail. The object ball is about 6 feet away and he gets some ridiculous action on the CB.

I had no idea what his plans were in the pushout and I doubt Van den berg did either.

But it can be diagrammed. I think this is fairly close. I don't remember the exact positions of the balls besides the cue, 4, 5, and 9, but it was a lot like this. The CB keeps its backspin all the way until it comes back out off the side rail, and then makes a dramatic turn back downtable. Incredible stroke.

CueTable Help

Not quite as diagrammed... as the CB came back up table (towards Corey) and first contacted the long rail before contacting the short rail.

Wowzers...that is a very bendy shot.Cool stuff.

I would have to put Larry Nevel's stroke right up there with him.

The best I've ever seen live as far as power goes.I'm sure many of you seen a lot more of these guys live then I have...but without a doubt Larry can FLAT OUT bend the dam rock.He does stuff I'll never see come off the end of my stick.

Larry did one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on a pool table....(really need to learn that cuetable site)...anyhow,this happened on a 9 footer.Standing at the short rail he put a ball right up against the rail a few inches away from the pocket,Nine foot away he put a ball in inch or so from the pocket.

With cue jacked up,almost at jump angle or higher he stroked the shot, through the rail (leaving chalk on the green) and actually shot draw on a ball that was literally frozen to the rail.

And you guys might think I'm lying, but I'm not.

The cue ball played the ball in the corner...and then it came back...all the way back to the rail it was shot from...and then all the way back to the other short rail and the almost all the way to the original rail again.
I'd call it 24 feet or draw or so.Shot on a ball frozen cue.THATS a power shot...the most amost amazing thing I've ever seen on a table.

Oh...EasyE saw it as well.It was nuts!

Hopefully this shows up...

Some other things to note: The cue-four-eight are very close to in-line. The eight is slightly to the pocket-side of the first diamond from the corner pocket. When Corey shoots the shot, his stick passes over the rail at close to the 1/2-diamond point from the corner pocket he is near. The main thing to get right on the setup if you're going to try the shot yourself is how straight the shot is, since at some larger cut angle, it really is impossible to bring the cue ball back for the five like that.

If you want to simulate new cloth to get the action you see in the clip, wax the cue ball or rub it with silicone spray like ArmorAll.
+1
FWIW, this shot is not even possible on most pool hall equipment - except for the day the new simonis 860 goes on. Basically, if the cloth isn't fast, there's no chance to duplicate in normal playing conditions. And if it's a humid day, fuggidaboutit.

I've watched Corey on several occasions and he does stunts like this all the time. Hard to believe, but it si true. He has a stroke few will ever know and can make the CB dance like few ever will. Where I would have said: this shot was the convergence of perfect felt, perfect weather, perfect stroke, and perfect cut angle...this is just another shot to Corey.

he made this amazing jacked up draw shot with the cue ball frozen to the rail at the mosconi cup a few years ago. he is awesome

Here is a stroke shot for you to practice Dr. Cue's Protege! You'll know it when you see it.
I watched the Deuel super stroke shot above and figured, hell, how hard can it be. If you havent watched it, take a look.
So I took off the table cover, pulled out the camera and gave it 5 whacks. My table isn't near as fast as on the video, but I was pleasantly surpised to see how a monster stroke plays on my table. Also, I was a bit closer to the object ball than Corey - well he's the pro ;)

As for the shot: I made the 4 (object ball) every time - altough once in the wrong pocket, doh! I got decent shape on the 5 ball 4 out of 5 times. On the one I blew shape, I hit the 7 with the cue ball (I didn't hit the cue ball hard enough to slide before the draw took). On the 4th shot, I even over drew the ball. It looked kinda sweet bending all the way down the table. The last shot was by far the worst - but at least the pool gods were smiling on me and the 4 went it.

Click here for my youtube of this shot.

I'm comin' after you Corey! (j/k)

Does anyone know what type of spin corey used on the shot in the first video? I'm curious.

muz: just pure draw/backspin. You can also add a little right sidespin but if you draw it as nicely as corey did, you don't need it, the cueball will get there anyway.

He used LOW RIGHT. He really dug in hard too with that monster stroke. That is what brought it back up like that. Sheesh that guy has a stroke.

Good job. Keep it up and you'll be doing what Corey does....but you'll need a Predator shaft.

He used straight draw. Watch the warmup strokes and then watch the replay about 10 times.

In my opinion, Deuel just has the most powerful stroke in the world.

Enjoy!

i think Nevel has the most powerful stroke, but cory is a better player 7 days a week, i dont have 25% the power of either of them.

I was at that match between Corey and Mika sitting in the first row and when Corey shot that long draw shot it was amazing. I don't know of another pro who has a stronger stroke than Corey IMO.

Earl, Archer etc. could do that all day long, i have seen earl do it before, its a great shot, but on new cloth thats clean it isnt the hardest shot, if you notice the lag time when the ball was floating sideways before the english took? thats the sign of new cloth, i'm not knocking Cory but believe me alot of players can do that on new cloth.
