Deuels Break

Corey does weird stuff like that sometimes. He is, by the way, a champion playing every shot with the bridge. In this case, Mika probably thinks Corey is messing with him, but I think it's probably that Corey is so far behind.

He is probably trying to get disqualified.

That's what I would do if a "professional" ever broke like that and I was referee'ing. Automatic loss of game instead of the entire match would be letting him off easy.

So much for "professional" conduct, eh?

That Corey is a strange bird sometimes....but hes making balls on the break and getting out.

Corey was running out - until he missed. The live feed was actually pretty good. It would have been a little nicer to know the score.

I would love to see Corey D. and Ronnie Alcano play Rake 10-Ball race to 25. That will be an awesome show. ;)

I like him, he is smart. He has good insight on things and thinks out of the box. I have spent time with him talking about alot more than pool, and he is a progressive thinker. He breaks things down analizes them and puts the pieces back together so to speak and comes up with good observations and solutions, we were talking about polution, energy supply, scientific issues etc. And wow I was impressed. I bet he spells better than me too. What ever he does he does for a reason. I like him.

Yeah, I have hung out with him, inside and outside the poolroom, and played golf with him. He definitely looks at things from every angle and most often times takes the path less traveled. Thats what makes him a champion, IMO.

I like Corey and all, but spelling is not his strong suite. He is like a Savant at pool though. He is the most creative player today.

Corey broke like that in his earlier match before Mika. I heard that breaking using a bridge is his sign of revolt against the move to elimnate the soft break that he was a master of. Mika was called for a foul for not sending 2 balls past the side pockets in his match vs Alex in the World tourney last Saturday - another rule against the soft break.

This tourney is 10 ball and they have a rule that you can't make the 10 ball into the nearest corner pockets on the break to win but must spot the 10 instead and continue. This is another rule to prevent acing the break. It was called on a player from Japan when he thought he had won and gathered the balls - the ref was clalled to explain that rule to the Japanese player who didn't know about that rule. The regular players know about this rule and spot the 10 and continue.

That is just hearsay and breaking with a bridge didn't make any more balls, so what is the reason?

Wait a second, I don't read the rule book every year so I was under the impression that as long as 4 balls and the CB made a cushion it was a leagl break. Now you have to make at least 2 balls go past the side pockets? What the hell is that? So Corey wants to use a soft break. As long as he's meeting the criteria , 4 balls and the CB to a rail, that's all that should matter.

As for using the bridge on a break shot, sounds ignorant to me.

In most tounaments (Eurotour, Mosconi cup...), there is now the rule that 3 balls must pass the head string (not the side pockets). If not the player loose the hand, but it is not considering as a foul. All the pocketing balls are also counting. So if one ball is potted on the break, only 2 must pass the head string, 2 potted one must pass etc... The cue ball does'nt count.

Corey broke with his hand and not the bridge last week at the World Pool Masters - for 10 Ball, he uses a bridge - protest?

What are those footsteps I hear???? uh-oh those would be sounds of potential sponsers WALKING OUT the door.
Its completely unprofessional. And if he was playing any other sport, there would be an IMMEDIATE response.

LMAO. Breaking with the bridge; that's hilarious. Give 'em hell, Corey! :D

I think some of you guys should cut Corey some slack. They changed the rules just to stop his break. Who can blame him for coming up with a creative way to express his displeasure in that?

This should actually attract sponsors. It is interesting. If it were a TV match, it would actually give the commentators something more to talk about to keep the audience's interest in the game.

The more variety of breaking styles that are being used, the better off the game is for it, in my opinion. If Corey's breaking with the bridge to protest his soft break being taken away, more power to him. :)

You don't have to get the CB to a rail, just watch SVB break, he hardly ever gets the CB to the rail!

I was there at the player's meeting and they were told that if you attempt to soft break, you lose the game. Maybe by using the bridge to break he doesn't have to hit them hard........
