Developing the New Generation of Pocket Billiard Players - What Can We Do?

Not the same thing. They were referring to the injuries that occur in football.

Your logic shows how tightly gripped gambling has on the image of pool. You play pool, you must play for money, drink, and do drugs.

Hence the reason to stop glorifying hustlers, gamblers. The current image of pool does not help.

Pool could be the sport to replace youth football.

I look at that young girls eyes, and the twenty dollars....and I see something more long term than the current smile. I've seen the effects, and environments and mindsets one must endure in the states to ''get better''. I see the probable injuries to the body/soul. Not your normal sports injury, but permanent. In Europe there's structure and acceptance, that's where true players live.

Here's my two pennies worth...

FYI - This girl works very hard at one one Ft. Worth's best restaurants averaging $150-200 a day. She also is a college student, artist and works very hard academically. Pool is her hobby and a passion....she's showing the money as a trophy, not an incentive.

keep up the good work, pool does teach a lot more than just hitting one sphere

We have several young veterans at the American Legion Post that I shoot at that have expressed an interest in really learning the details of the game from the older veterans (I guess they got tired of getting spanked at the table by us...lol). Anyway, they are all doing great and are now interested in joining the local leagues (both in-house and outside). It's kinda cool to see how far these guys have come and see the confidence in their faces as they get down to shoot on the table.

Mentoring and instruction to a whole new generation of players is what it's about to promote this game...good job CJ!

Fantastic, keep up the good work, pool does teach a lot more than just hitting one sphere into another.

Play Well

There's your problem, champ. No one is interested in pool, outside of people who already play pool.

You have done one thing right. You've made a fool of yourself in front of the entire AzB community.

I'm willing to bet that your IQ is a double digit number! Starting with the number 8

Was that supposed to be an insult? Trying to make a bet that my IQ is equal to a developing child? Bravo, sir, you really got me...

That's nice to hear, as is not normally the case. Michelle Rakin from Sacramento, raised by her father an off shore man is a great example of life goals. She had a younger sister that also played well and two younger brothers that had game. Michelle became a doctor. Dad did a great job raising 4 kids on his own. Google her name, she could play.

Thanks Goodness for real life training at such a young age.

Doesn't Michelle have a sister that also plays competitively?

Speaking for the majority of champion players, pool is more about creativity and passion.......money is a result, however, it would never have been enough of an incentive to start us playing at a young age.

I got my start selling sno-cones, and by the time I was 15 was making more than my mother and father put together. This experience in the hospitality industry shaped my future career in the pool room business.

Thanks Goodness for real life training at such a young age.

I just hope I don't get my ass kicked by this ''new'' generation filling the void....seriously I haven't played since the mid 90's. But as long as the balls are still round and gravity works with the pockets it should be a good night......And try to share the wealth of knowledge I hope to remember tonight.

There's few better ways to improve than to share your knowledge with others.

I had someone that used to not like me ask a question about pool tonight - what a great opportunity for improvement, a true win/win scenario......it's funny how that works "to keep improving our knowledge, it's essential to to give it away to anyone that asks" - this creates balance, good-will, and harmony that's beyond human comprehension.
