Oh, and if you do go in person, apparently Diamond finally has a replacement for the Diamondwood material. There was a thread a few weeks ago showing the new material. But no member here has ordered one yet or seen the complete table (or at least reported it on AZ...).

They do, it is called Dymalux !

Just got another email from Diamond. Apparently they only have two of their tables set up at their factory. And you cannot play on them either.

Not sure it would be much use to drive down there but I might go ahead and do it anyway. I wonder what I would do with my Gold Crown IV if I decide to buy a Diamond table?

Have you played on a Diamond before? Only asking because the balls bounce off the rails significantly differently than a GC, and also the standard Pro-Cut pockets play tougher than even a triple shimmed GC set up for one pocket gambling. That's why I suggested earlier if you get one, to request the League-Cut pockets.

Just make sure you play on it somewhere before pulling the trigger.

Now that you mention the email back, I recall they had a few tables set up, but I think they were very close together, and not really meant for play, but rather just as a showroom. I forget, its been a few years since I went on the factory tour.

Yes, years ago up in Columbus, IN the former WPBA touring pro Diana Minor had a Diamond Professional. And it was the best playing table I have ever played on.

It seems like most pro tournaments are played on Diamonds nowadays. And if they are played on Gold Crowns its probably going to have to be a tournament that Brunswick puts on.

Dunno, maybe Diamond is the way to go nowadays.

Well then, it sounds like it is the table for you! Now you just have to pick the style and color options:grin-square::grin-square::grin-square: Good luck.

Do you have room for both? If not, then sell it. The GC4's are probably the most desirable used GC on the market.

What am I going to do with my Gold Crown IV then???

But I already have a Gold Crown IV and it looks almost exactly like the Diamond Professional. The Diamond Pro was/is basically a copy-cat of the Gold Crown.

Other than slight playing differences, what's the point here? But I will keep an open mind.

If it was a copy cat version of a GC, it would have 6 rails, and metal pocket casting, with rubber pockets, a stretcher between the pedestals, and formica finished rails, as well as a ball tray in the foot rail blind whereas a place to put the balls.

Greg has a private 4 table pool room in Clarksville that you could go and play on the Diamonds there I'm sure.

Tell Aaron I told you to call him, RKC you'll get the drop pockets.

The guy I have been dealing with, his name is Ray Brown.

Is Aaron there all the time? I might drive down there next week, around Tuesday or so.

PM me your name so I can tell him who told me.

Thinking of a Diamond Pro-Am 9 footer.

And I heard back from them. The Pro-Am is NOT available in regular drop pockets, it only has the ball return. I just don't like that.

Maybe it’s just me, but I am puzzled why anyone would still buy a table with no ball return. To me any added expense would be insignificant compared to the constantly annoying hassle of emptying pockets over a lifetime.
Haven’t played on any of the newer examples, but I WAS initially a bit disconcerted by the loud report of a pocketed ball dropping on Greg’s first ball return prototype mechanisms, though over time I have found the sound to be rather reassuring (like the sharp ‘pop’ when you win at pinball).

This is one of those personal preferences things. I grew up on ball return tables, but got a drop pocket for my home (that's what was available). Now after playing on both for years, I prefer the drop pockets.

Balls and chalk don't ever get stuck on drop pocket tables.
