Diamond Pool Tables

I'm the guy that started the rail work.....not you.....I'm the guy that took the 66 cushions off calibrated the new sub rails for today's 66 cushions...which in turn are 55 today but still called 66.

I have found a place near me that has some GREAT Valley 7 footers. Till I played on those I really did not think that a regular bar table can play this well. Ivory Billiards on Holyoke MA, clean and well stretched Simonis on them, cushions and pockets are setup very well, no real dead rails or rolls.

Made me re-think my thoughts about playing on 7 footers, granted that only changed my thoughts on tables that are setup as nicely as those are.

The main room I play in has a new Diamond 7' and I think those Valleys, with the way they are setup, are just as good to play on without getting frustrated with what happens when you shoot.

Whoever set those Valley tables up needs a medal.

Depends on the skill of the players :wink: I hear from players all the time about how tough the 9 footers are when they come into a pool room for the first time from their basement or bar. Yet I find playing on a 7 footer is tougher because I have to baby the shots a bit and there is less room to swing the cueball around.

I do think that Diamond needs to work on that shelf length though, I have hit some shots that I see going in and then just sit there in the jaws. NOT fun. I don't mind 4.5" or maybe even smaller pockets, but if I hit inside the jaws of the pockets, I want the ball to drop not sit at the edge taunting me. Especially if I have to hit a tough shot that is hard to get in the hole to begin with.

I keep seeing this "low skill of players", as a backhand slap of pool players.

Guys - there are a lot of pool players out there of many different skill levels. When someone makes a statement about "low skill", it is beyond condensending, and sounds silly.

I dont play on Diamond bar boxes but lots of folks do. But as a couple guys have noted, there are alot of complaints from league players on Diamond bar boxes.

I agree that there is a world of difference between a Valley table and Diamond.

So what is the problem? No problem if you arent concerned staying open..:eek:

The problem is "change" most people don't like change, they'd rather everything stay the way it's always been, except their pay checks that is. A bar is not going to stay open just because they install Diamond tables, or close because they did. There's about a million reasons why bars and pool rooms close, and at the bottom of that list is the tables, though run down, worn out old pieces of shit wll help close the doors sooner. If a location can't afford to keep their equipment up to date, then there a lot of writing on the walls that no one's reading, and it has nothing to do with ProCut pockets or deeper shelf slates.

Agreed.

But consumers have choices and given that guys can play at one location that has nothing but Valley tables and another place has nothing but Diamonds and they quit going to the place that has Diamonds what would you do?

Jump up and down and say they are stupid because they don't want to play on Diamonds?

Claim they don’t know anything because like the people said in this thread that they are "unskilled"?

This isn’t hypothetical I have seen it in my hometown.

It has nothing to do with the tables. I told you that before. He has ruined his business and he did it in about the first month he was open. He's even ran your cousin off.

I think this thread is silly! Diamonds are awesome, any good pool players that I know likes diamond tables. All tables can be set up nice by a great mechanic, but I think that most so called unskilled players who supposedly don't like diamonds really aren't good enough to know the difference and will play on anything.

AGREED ! I like them both. Its just 2 different styles of play. I have noticed that if there is a game of Banks,or 1 hole, it is almost always onna table other than a Diamond.

I thought i'd need a flame-ratardant suit to post on this thread again ! :eek:

Wynkoop's is a brewery in lower downtown Denver. Wynkoops is an upscale restaurant/brewery/poolroom and I have stopped in there for years playing in a benefit tourney for education. The tables were horrible but I put up with them for the cause. This year I walk in and what do you know....new tables. Seven nine foot Gold crowns and seven Diamond bar boxes. What a difference it made, I had never seen the place busier. Yes its already a nice place but the management made a huge improvement buy investing in great tables.
 
I've worked on to many Brunswick's and Diamond's to count, and have no problem with either brand, but where I draw the line at....is tables that don't play worth a damn, are run down...and look like it too, and the location owners just keep right on charging customers to play on them, and are themselves to damn cheap to invest in their own damn equipment....for the good of their customers!

Exactly my point Glen. Not only does this place have great beer but now they have great tables. I will frequent this room more because management took care of a problem.
 
Got some questions perhaps someone can answer.

I have a 9 foot diamond with red label.
I believe it is a pro version. 3 piece slate, legs sort of in the middle with some adjustment screws inside. I believe the rails have red labels don't remember as they are under the cloth.

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade this table?

I'm interest in pockets that don't mark balls.
I heard there are new rails with better profile.
The rails on my table don't bank the same if you hit just where the leather pocket starts.

Thanks for any info.
