I just got a used Diamond with the leather pockets. Think I read somewhere that they tend to mark the balls and this is proving to be true for me. Any solution other than changing pockets? Thanks.

You might get more traction by listing this in the "Ask a Mechanic" section. How new is the table? The dye comes off more on newer tables. Been told saddle-soap will lessen it but not totally stop it.

I'd be willing to bet that if you used the search function you'd find all the answers you're looking for:thumbup:

You could just do what I did and ignore it. I had noticed the marks on the balls when I first bought the table some where around 2005/2006. After a decade or so of playing on it, problem solved. Must have worn off the finish on the pockets by shooting thousands upon thousands of shots over time.

Or, you could find someone willing to sell you an old, worn pocket set like mine, lol.

Or you could do what I did and rub the living crap out of them with rag and denatured alcohol until the dye is dead;)

I found some black cloth (tight weave with a slight gloss) (rayon or nylon maybe) cut it about 3 inches wide, double face tape for fabric about 1/2 inch wide tape. I used the double face tape on the top edge of the cloth and stuck it to the inside of the pocket, It has been almost 3 years now and it is still in place and no more marks, cost about 6 dollars and about an hour to do.

Just a FYI tip, any time you use alcohol on leather, be it in the dye or just straight, you need to put moisture back into the leather via lexol or the like. It will prematurely age the leather and shorten its life.

A new Diamond table with leather pockets will mark up the balls for awhile. But eventually it stops. This is a small issue for how well the table plays and if it's a used table it shouldn't be a problem.

I beg to differ. I have 3 Diamond tables purchased new in 2008. They get shot on everyday, 12-16 teams, leagues 4 nights a week, free all day Sundays, Tourneys every other Sat. from Nov. till April and I still get marking on the balls. Ain't a thing though, a few minutes in the Diamond double platter and good as new. You are very correct that the play of the tables more than offsets the minor infraction. Brian.
