did i make a big mistake ??

Keep the tip, it should last you a good long time, hold its shape well, and hold chalk well. If you believe it has any properties more mystical than those, you will be best served by realizing those properties are all in your head, and that you need to focus your precious mental energies on technique and practice.

On the other hand, if it's installed wrong it could click. Some people (like me) are really bothered if their cue clicks even if the shot is not being affected much.

One question for the OP: how is your game now if you play with a house cue? Do you drop down to a 2, rise to a 4 or pretty much stay the same?

Remove it and go back to your original tip.

There is nothing physically wrong with the tip. Bob Jewett et al are correct on that count. But clearly it is in your head. You wrote a rant about how you hate your tip. People will tell you to forget about it. But you won't. It will always be in the back of your mind, eating away at your confidence. If your mind isn't in it, you won't play your best game. No tip is worth that.

IMO, all of the other responses are right for the wrong reasons, or wrong for the right reasons.

Obviously the tip isn't broken in yet. Just go play with it for a couple weeks.

In other words...go practice.

Ah yes...it was also suggested you buy some books. Nice idea. But don't let any reading time interfere with or replace practice time. Ever. At all. Not even one minute.

I disagree with this ... A new(ish) player should not be dealing with things like deflection consciously. Now there's an option to remove that variable (or diminish it significantly) for new or low-sl players, allowing the student to learn to make balls.

Indeed, back in the old days before there were LD shafts new players never learned to make balls. Obviously they had to try for 15-20 years before they made any balls at all. Thank God for LD....it obviously saved the sport.
