Riviera Hotel.... The suggested/recommended hotel for both the BCA and the VNEA Pool Tournaments for MAY weekends in Las Vegas, Nevada.

BCA Tournament May 9 - 17, 2008

VNEA Tournament May 22 - 31, 2008

Both weeks totally sold out.

Riviera suggested room rate for BCA $92.00/night
Riviera suggested room rate for VNEA $84.00/night

Don't you think BCA could have got a better rate for their players?

It doesn't matter. I'm never staying at the Riv again. I'm so sick of that place.

for apa in Aug it says Riviera is $85 a night but online they are all sold out, you may have to call them. But i looked online and I found hotels really close for almost half the price, We are going to stay at Sahara in Aug for $45 a night and it less then a mile away and on the monorail. So look around a little bit, i don't think you want to stay at the riviera anyways from what i've heard!

rates drop here in the summer because it gets hotter, if $8/night is an issue you should recondsider tavelling. in the winter when the CES Electronics Trade Show comes to town they triple the rates at EVERY hotel, the Riv would be about $250-$300 night, they do that the whole Trade show season, anything under $100 on the strip is a gift, unless your north of Sahara. thinking about it Excalaber might be under $100:confused: .

The Riv blows but it has the room's for the tournments and that is key, if the Riv goes down the BCA etc are gonna have their asses handed to them to find a different location, the other joints on the strip want insane $$$ for conference/banquet rooms. The South Coast which is WAAAY south on the Strip might work they have the space and might be fair on the pricing, hotel's rape promoters on the banquet rooms, they run such strict time lines its brutal, and they need time to set up and break down after any event-it gets expensive.

I know the Riv sucks, i have been going there for over 20 years and it hasnt changed, when the land below it is worth more $$ it will be gone, the good news is that alot of the old joints have been sold and blown up and they are building higher density propertys, and there is less pressure on the strip for occupancy, the RIV survived so far and might with the slow down in the economy, The strip has enough inventory.

those big rooms the tournmant is in have saved that hotel, they have shit there all the time, chess players, gun shows, arm wrestling probably, they are awalys full up. They have a great marketing Dept that makes it affordable to the promoters and attendees, so they have a high occupancy rate and drop from the gaming-thats the only reason the Riv hasnt went down, Seee they dont give a shit about the pool tournment there only concern it the gaming drop., they use those big rooms for events to keep the hotel full and the drop higher-the Mirage used Siegfried & Roy to get people to hook players for their property, every hotel has a hook, the Riv uses those big rooms and cheap rates for the hotel-be thankful.

ok i'm done:)

Right! What it needs is a wrecking ball or one of those high tech implosions!

Well, summer doesn't really come into play in a 1 week span. I come out for 11 days when I play BCA. Not everyone has a "don't care what it costs" situation as you may. Another $100.00 for the trip makes a difference to me.

Circus Circus across the street is $45.00/night as the Sahara and the Stratosphere. But, as you stated, the convenience of staying at the Riv because of the tournament being hosted there is the major reason I stay there.

I have been attending the Riviera for tournaments (APA & BCA) since 1992, and spent every New Years Eve in Vegas since 1981, so I know what the rates are and how they fluctuate.

I just think it is rather strange on how the Hotel can survive/exist in one week that they can't in the following week.

I think the point that klockdoc was making was not that he couldn't afford the $8 but why do the BCA players get charged $8 more than the VNEA? Seems like it should be fair across the board.

I have said for 10 years that the Riv is a pit & have been told that it is the only place in Vegas to hold the BCA. I won't gamble a penny in the Riv so all they get out of me is paying rent for 10 days. The BCA does nothing by me to help them with their gambling totals - not that they need it. But I am sure that I am not the only one with the same opinion. It all adds up. If I lost just $2,000 a year in the Riv for the past 10 years that would be a nice $20K profit for them.

10 years ago, I was playing craps with Snooker John & teaching him a betting system I know. We were betting small just so he could see how it worked. For 45 minutes, like a robot, bet for bet he followed every move I made for $10 increments. A number is rolled & I get paid $10 but John does not. I ask the stickman, what about my friend's bet. The stickman says that he did have a bet. I said, for 45 minutes you have watched us make the same bets. The stickman's reply - "Well then mother f-er, you pay him". The pit boss just lowered his head and didn't say a word. Needless to say, I did. I told this story to a pitboss at the Wynn on my recent trip. I asked the pitboss at the Wynn what would happen if one of his employees said that to me. His reply - "He would be working at the Riv!"

I did want to bet my friend $5k when we were standing in line at Kady's (only because he begged me to go) and the wait was 20 minutes. I told him that when we got into the dining room, there would be a minimum of 20 empty tables. I stopped counting when I got to 25.

The Riv is so poorly managed, it survives out of shear stupidity. This year, when walking thru the casino out the door, I never saw the tables full. Yes Fatboy is right, the slow economy & larger inventory of hotels coming to Vegas in the next 3-4 years will keep the Riv alive.

Next year, I will have the hookup at the Encore & never have to spend a nickel at the Riv again. Thank you.

Hi Folks,

I've been to the Riv for 15 years. It's the same crap year after year. I also attended the electronics show in January from '88 till '06. Several of the manufacturer's I represented displayed there. The restaurant food is really bad for Vegas. The concession stand food is barely palatable and way overpriced. 8 ounce water bottle for $2.79????? Go to the ABC store in the lobby and a 24 ounce bottle of Deja Blue was $0.99!

On the other hand, Mark Griffin has looked at virtually every other venue in Vegas. The Riv is a bargain! If you played matches after midnight, you really appreciate the on-site rooms. Regardless, I'll see you'all next year.

I mean, I don't know if it's the flood of pool players or if The Riv is always like that but every other hotel I go to, I'm treated much much better. It seems someone always has an episode there. If I play in the BCA event again, I'm def staying somewhere else.

Yes, that is something else that the Riviera management doesn't understand. They have changed the beer sales in the tournament room from canned beer to draft and changed the price to $3.50 for a glass of draft from $4.00 for a can.

Go to the ABC store and you can get a 24 oz. can of beer for $2.50 ($2.79 w/tax). Where is the logic there? I don't expect the Riviera to even be selling beer at the next years tournament. I remember when the lines were so long to get a beer, now they were lucky they made enough to pay for the employees wages.

The proliferation of local indian gaming is putting the squeeze on Vegas too. If the Riviera folds I know they have a massive hall at the Tropicana. I wonder if that could be a good alternative if needed.

How did you fare in the Singles competition, Jude?

Yes. I had one very good instance during my trip with a waiter at Kady's. Other than that, all the employees make you feel like they are doing you a favor for just being there. How about the bartenders at the Splash Bar?..

Those guys are a trip. Very arrogant and non receptive to anyone.

Think you could have got in to Circus Circus for about 39 BUCKS/Night Weekdays. Those in the KNOW get Players Cards from many Casinos, play a little and get FREE ROOMS, or Big Discounts. IMHO the Riveria is a ONE STAR Hotel, and I would rather stay Downtown, and ride the Bus to the riveria.

Riviera Rates

We received a flyer in March and booked our rooms on line for an average of $68 per night for 8 nights, all taxes included. We are not big gamblers and never get comped for anything more than a free pass in Kady's food line. I suppose the flyer was sent as a result of us having signed up for a player card.

Not that the typical Vegas visitor is a pillar of society but at the Riv the "sleeze factor" is always quite obvious.

The only reason I walk in the joint is to attend pool tournaments and because my wife has a good friend who is a dealer there.

Randy tell you the story about how he was at the Splash bar & the guy in front of him ordered drinks. ??? When the bartender brings the drinks over, he says to the guy "Don't forget to take care of your bartender". My friend Randy just lowered his head so now the bartender asks him "Do you think I said anything wrong?" Randy's response, "I did work as a bartender & bar manager for 7 years, and hustling/asking for a tip is simply unprofessional & not done". The Riv bartender could still care less.

Good Post, and it was UNPROFESSIONAL. IMHO.

Yeah, I'm so tired of those f***ers. Seriously, it's out of control there. Kody's (Kady's) might be the worst diner in the history of food. Not only does it taste bad but you have to wait about 30 minutes before someone will EVEN MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH YOU to take your order. Anyone who knows anything walks the extra half mile to Peppermill (we all say, "It's just across the street!") because the service is about a thousand times better (haven't done the math yet but I'm sure I'm close).
