I have been waiting to see some masse cues around here!
I was kicking around some ideas myself and have some design parameters set out if I ever get the cash together to have one made.
As for the weight issue, I was wondering if a Dymondwood core would be a good idea. It certainly has the stiffness, and I think good weight on it's side. I have always been a little uncomfortable with metal inside cues for some reason, especially in the A joint. I understand many cues have been made that way and that probably better techniques, experience, and glues minimize problems, but even still, it has always been something that bothered me a little.
Is that a bonehead idea?
I think masse cues are interesting from a design standpoint. There are numerous variables to manipulate, even including the joint position. Some good ones I have seen actually didn't break down at the half way point, but I really prefer one that does myself if for no other reason than aesthetics.
Very cool post. I will look forward to seeing it come together. If it is anything like the work we are used to seeing from you it will be a great cue for sure.
